Mrs. Sarah J. (Keiper) Hettig

Mrs. Sarah J. (Keiper) Hettig, aged 79 years, wife of August Hettig, died last Thursday noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herschel Hathaway.

She had been an invalid for several years suffering from heart trouble. During the last four years, Mr. and Mrs. Hettig had made their home with their daughter, who cared for her mother during her illness.

Mrs. Hettig was the daughter of Reuben and Elizabeth (Prutziman) Kieper, and was born at Leonardsville Luzerne county, Pa., April 16, 1852. She was married to August Hettig, April 14, 1870. She was a member of the Evangical Lutheran church at Alderson, Pa.

Surviving her besides her husband, are several sons and daughters: Mrs. Herschel Hathaway of Hartwick, Mrs. e. Dotter of Kresgeville, Pa., R. O. Hettig of Los Angeles, Cal., Stephen Hettig of Lehighton, Pa., Charles Hettig of Athens, Pa, Stuart Hettig of Marion Run; Pa., and W.H. Hettig of Oneonta. There are also a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held from the Hathaway home at 1:30 p. m. Monday, with Rev. r. C. Updyke, pastor of the Christian church officiating. Interment was made in the family plot in the Schenevus cemetery.

Friends and relatives were present from Warrior Run, Athens, Lehighton, Pennsylvania, Schenevus, Milford, Oneonta. The Ladies Auxilary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Oneonta attended in a body.

Floral tributes were sent by the Brotherhood of Railway Trainment, Christian church, Rebekah Lodge, High School and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Oneonta, besides other individual pieces.
