August Hettig, Hartwick, Succumbs Following Shock

Fails to Recover From Stroke Suffered October 19 - Funeral to be held Tuesday Afternoon

Hartwick, Oct. 29 - August Hettig, 83, died at 10 o'clock Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herschel Hathaway, here.  He suffered a shock October 19 and never regained consciousness.

Mr. Hettig was the son of a Valentine and Sofia (Manderling) Hettig and was born in Leipsic, Germany, May 27, 1850. He came to America when he was 17. Mr. Hettig resided in Pennsylvania until six years ago when he and his wife came to live at the Hathaway home. He married Sarah J. Keiper of Leonardsville, Pa., April 14, 1870. She died two years ago.

Mr. Hettig was a member of the Faith Evangical Lutheran church at Alderson, Pa.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hathaway and Mrs. E. Dotter of Kresgeville, Pa., five sons, R. O. Hettig of Los Angeles, Cal., Stephen of Lehighton, Pa., Charles of Athens, Pa., Stewart of Lee Park, Pa., and Wilson of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and several grand-children.

The funeral will be held from the daughter's home here at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon. Rev. R. C. Updyke, pastor of the Congregational-Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot at Schenevus.
