1. A Man About the House
This show starts out in Apartment 201 with Chrissy cleaning the apartment. Later, Janet wakes up exhausted from last night's party, which was for their roommate, Eleanor Garvey, who moved out and got married. Chrissy goes in the bathroom and finds a man sleeping in the bathtub. She calls Janet and the two of them investigate. Soon, the man wakes up and introduces himself. His name was Jack Tripper and he lived at the YMCA. He was a student at cooking school and attended the party with some friends. Suddenly, Janet and Chrissy thought of an idea...Jack could be their new roommate! The three of them think it's a great idea, but their landlords, Stanley Roper  and Helen Roper don't, especially Mr. Roper. Jack tells Mr. Roper that their living arrangement will be strictly platonic, but that is not enough to convince him. Finally, Mr. Roper agrees to let Jack stay...after Janet tells him that Jack is gay!

Jack agrees to take her out for the night and he makes Janet very sad. He promised to stay for her birthday party but goes out with Karen instead. Janet and Chrissy are mad at Jack for the rest of the night since he betrayed them. Later, Jack and Karen go down to the Ropers' apartment when suddenly Karen flirts with him incredibly. Stanley then enters, gets the wrong idea, and tells Jack to pack his bags and leave. Jack comes back home to 201 and starts to pack. Janet and Chrissy soon find out that Stanley threw him out, and later when Stanley comes upstairs Janet and Chrissy get mad at him. 4. No Children, No Pets
Jack's friend "honest Larry" (who we later get to know as Larry Dallas who lives upstairs) brings with him a puppy and gives it to the trio. The three of them love it, but Janet tells them they can't keep it because Mr. Roper doesn't allow pets in the building. Throughout the day, the trio decides to try not to make it obvious that they have a puppy. Helen comes in later that night and sees some food on the table. It is dog food, but Jack tells her it is a French dish he made in cooking school. She takes it and decides to feed it to Stanley. Jack, Janet, and Chrissy panic and Jack goes downstairs to the Ropers' apartment and takes Mr. Roper's dinner. He goes to the bathroom and puts it down the drain. Mr. Roper later explains that he really did eat the "French food" and what Jack put down the drain was Helen's stew that she made. Mr. Roper loved the "dog food" and told Jack it was delicious. The next morning, the puppy is missing. Jack and Janet wonder what could have happened to it. Then, Chrissy explains she left it in front of the Ropers' door and watched Mrs. Roper bring it in to the apartment.
