Instructions for full access to
Yahoo! Groups
Including Archives, Shared Files etc,
And viewing and responding to messages
without flooding your email inbox.

Unfortunately Yahoo has decided to make this process a bit difficult and tedious - but by following these step, the process should, hopefully, go smoothly.

Step One:
The easiest way to begin is with a new Yahoo ID

Simply fill out the information.  None of the information need be accurate, and I recommend typing false information in order to preserve your anonymity - by picking occupation and industry at random etc.  The zip code must be an actual zip code, though not necessarily yours.  For the secret question and answer I recommend a randomly selected question and a random combination of letters, numbers, and punctuation marks for the answer.  For the password I recommend an eight digit password including 3 letters, 3 numbers, and 2 punctuation marks.  This will, for all intents and purposes, keep your Yahoo ID completely safe from hackers.  At the same time, be sure it is a password you will not forget.  I recommend that it be an abbreviation of a sentence which you will remember.

For example:

"Hello, for I eight two burritos!" would be an easy way to remember a password like:  h,4i82b!

Step Two:
Sign up for a least one Yahoogroup by hitting the "Join this group" in the upper right hand corner of the groups main page - in this case Hermetic-GD:

Step Three:
After you've hit "Join this group" you will be brought to another page.  Be sure to check the "No email" option, so that you can view the archives and respond to them without finding 100 emails in your inbox everyday.  This way, you can keep the email portion of your new Yahoo ID available for one-on-one correspondence:

Step Four:
From this point forward you should be able to access the Yahoogroups you have subscribed to by simply logging in at http://groups.yahoo.com (may want to memorize that) with you new Yahoo ID and password.  You will then see a list of the forums you are subscribed to on the left side to the screen.  You can also use your Yahoo ID email address at http://mail.yahoo.com (may want to memorize that too).

Step Five:
If you still have problems accessing the groups and archives, take a look at "My Preferences".  If, on the right side of the screen, next to your yahoo address are the words "Not converted" hit the "Edit" button as illustrated here:

Then, hit convert:

Now, you will have to wait until Yahoo eventually gets around to sending your confirmation number to your new email address.  You will receive it at http://mail.yahoo.com.  It may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 15 minutes.  The message will be from "Yahoo! Groups Notification" with the subject heading "Authorization code".  Simply follow the instructions in that email and you'll be good to go.

If you have any further difficulty with Yahoogroups, please email me at frater_b6@yahoo.com with as much detail as you can as to the difficulty you are having, and I will assist you as best I can.

Your Brother in Light,
Frater BT
