Henry Jetton Tudury was Mississippi's most decorated war hero during World War I. Winner of the Distinguished Service Cross and the Croix de Guerre for "extraordinary heroism in action" in France. Wounded and gassed he refused to leave his post until overcome by exhaustion when he was carried from the field. He was a member of the twelfth machine gun battalion of the fourth division. General Pershing personally pinned the service cross on the breast of the young Mississippian. This is his story.
