Thirty-five million years ago, a volcanic eruption brought an island into being in the Atlantic Ocean. From the lava spectacular mountains arose with a dense forest and luxuriant vegetation.

            In the face of this astounding scenery, the discoverers had no difficulty in choosing a name for the island,  Ilha da Madeira (the Wooded Isle). 

            The magnitude of its exuberant nature, felt in every bend of the routes, which one can take through the interior of the island, creates a sense of fascination to those who visit.
Emerald coloured mountains and deep-green valleys give the island an unequalled natural settings which are still so virgin.
            

             The famous "levadas", irrigation canals built by man at the beginning of the colonisation of the island, take the visitors to the depth of reality, where the laurel forest presents itself in majesty and glory alongside flowers which spring forth spontaneously, turning Madeira into a permanent flowering garden.
