08/30/07:  So Where Ya Been?  Part III.

Oh, criminy.  I'm averaging a year between news posts.  Not good!

Work on
Forbidden Transmissions is under way.  Things would be going faster, but the motherboard on my desktop PC seems to have fried, and at the moment I'm not able to upgrade software on my laptop to continue work.  Must wait until another infusion of cash!

I am hoping to keep with my anticipated release date of Oct. 31, but we'll see how that goes.  As promised, though, the disc will be issued this year!

10/29/06:  So Where Ya Been?  Part II.

I know the question on everyone's mind is:  Will Amira ever produce another album?  It's been more than two years since Ancient Future, after all.

The "Forbidden Transmissions" concept is still rolling around in my head, especially considering some of the headlines from the past year or so.  In fact, I've come up with a nifty teaser for the front page that says the album is coming in 2007.  That'll give me a fair amount of wiggle room.  :)

Oh, well.  I know of other recording artists who go years between albums.  I'm in good company!

9/16/06:  So Where Ya Been?

Ohmigosh.  I cannot believe it's been a year since the last time I posted an update.  Been a mite busy, folks!

Yours truly met a wonderful gentleman last December, a gentleman who will become my husband in April 2007!!  However, he is highly supportive of my artistic endeavors.  In fact, you might say he is now my muse.  :)  Wedding plans are taking up the bulk of my leisure time, but hopefully I'll be back to recording and composing once things have settled down.  Stick with me, folks!!

9/11/05:  A Dream Come True

Just spent an amazing weekend in Atlanta at a Middle Eastern Dance workshop and show.  (I am a classically trained dancer in the Egyptian style of bellydance.  See my Web site here.)

Ever since I fell in love with the dance, I dreamed of composing my own music to dance to and performing it in public.  Well, this weekend I took the plunge and performed to "Another Night in Cairo" off the
Ancient Future album.  Got some absolutely terrific feedback, and two people approached me after the show to find out where they could get the music.  Whoooppeeee!!!!!

7/30/05:  Album #3 in the Works

Yes, sports fans, I am about to begin work on album #3, tentatively titled Forbidden Transmissions.  It'll be chock full o' the ambient grooves and sonic landscapes you know and love.

Ugh.  That was a really awful-sounding plug.

Anyway, this is another "concept" album (like
Changing of the Gods) with a back story.  :)  Also, the liner notes will contain information about how you can help persecuted religious minorities who, truly, are engaged in their own "forbidden transmissions."  In fact, check out International Christian Concern and get acquainted with some of the stories of these courageous people.  (Please note, I am not officially affiliated with ICC, just a concerned world citizen and supporter of their work.)

4/29/05:  Ancient Future to Be Featured at Screening of What the Bleep Do We Know?

Wow!  Hollywood is coming to my little ol' hometown of Tarrant, Alabama.  The Tarrant Arts Council is sponsoring its Silver Screen Series May 6-7, which will include a showing of the runaway indy hit What the Bleep Do We Know? My CD Ancient Future will be played as pre-show music, and yours truly is lending a hand as a VIP usher.  :)

3/18/05:  A Little Fun in the Afternoon

It's a quiet day in Amira-land.  I thought I'd check out some online generators and found
a site that will produce "band names," in case I ever want to expand my act.  Here are some possibilities it gave me:

-  Amira of the Surviving Cranium
-  Spasmic Amira and the Slam
-  Dry Amira and the Landscaping Guarantee
-  Shipping Amira of the Indirect Goggles

Well??

4/12/04: Ancient Future ... Background Music for EverQuest?

Muchas gracia
s to my cyberfriend Arnold for posting a link to my music on the forum at The Crossroads of Zebuxoruk, an EverQuest fan site.  The EQ fans have great things to say about Ancient Future!  Very gratifying, considering that gaming soundtracks are one of my inspirations.  Read the reviews here.

2/28/04:  Amira's Music Appears in Short Film "Talent"

I had the pleasure and honor of working with the Ping Pong at Dawn team on the short film "Talent," which competed this past week in the first
Sidewalk Scramble weekend film competition.

The film was produced by George Smith (Defpotec Films) and directed by Grant Tatum.  We didn't capture any of the coveted "Golden Lobster" awards, but a good time was had by all at the screening at the historic Carver Theater.
