SERVING HOPE, WASHINGTON, BLEVINS, AND ALL OF HEMPSTEAD COUNTY

Founded in 1999

HFHH

HFHH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - 'sweat equity' - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

Since our beginning in March of 1999, Habitat for Humanity of Hempstead County has roofed three houses, built two front porches with wheel chair ramps, fixed a bedroom floor that was rotting in, renovated a kitchen, and painted houses inside and and out. We have served eight families. More than ten area churches have contributed in time and money. More than 150 volunteers have picked up their hammers and their paint brushes and gone to work! Our next projects will be Father's Day weekend. Please join us at 2 p.m. or come on by after work on Friday June 16, 2000. We'll be building a new front porch for Mrs. Rosie Walton, at the corner of 4th Street and Mockingbird Lane. The address is 1301 West 4th in Hope, Arkansas. On Saturday, June 17, volunteers will be at 419 Hazel Street in Hope at the home of Mrs. Adell White. We'll be painting the inside of her house. Mrs. White is 80 years young and her family will be helping her paint her house. The Family Selection Committee is in the process of selecting the family for our first new house. Thanks to a generous contribution of the Foundation of Temple Innland, of $25,000, we have almost raised enough money for our first house. We are still raising money to buy the lot for the house and hope to begin construction Feb. 2001.
