A Plea for Help of the Victims of Abuse in Hana, Maui, USA
We need Evolution and Education in small rural towns of the USA!
This is what they say to the tourists:
Hana, isolated from the rest of the island, is truly the last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui. Picturesque views of spectacular waterfalls, the rugged Hana shoreline, and some of the best beaches on the island can only begin to describe what awaits you on this journey.

What they don't tell you is the truth about the prevalent decline of the local people's lives in this small rural town. Residents, like  me, are happy that Hana remains physically "underdeveloped." However, there is no excuse for this community to be underdeveloped in the area's of education, health and personal safety. Domestic abuse and drug use is rampant and there is no where for the victims to go for help and protection. We have a mix of people who live below the poverty line and the very wealthy who hide in the hills. Theft is the most prevalent crime in this town but it is quickly becoming known as the "ICE capitol of the World."  Drugs, crime and domestic abuse go hand-in-hand. This website is the first public outcry for help here! Everyone else only wants to say pleasant and nice things for fear of scaring the tourists away. Hang on to your purses when you come to Hana now but if something is not done soon, real criminals will prowl this tiny town and it won't only be purses missing then! That's the plea for commerce and personal safety but the other component is the misery.  I do not believe that people wake up in the morning and say, "I think I'll lie and steal, get high and beat my wife and children today."  People who behave this way feel trapped. They are under educated and miserable and they generally do not know there is another way. There is hope for everyone to find health and happiness if we share our tools of wellness and hope with them. People who turn their lives around from hopeless despair to happy achievers are the miracles of this day and those who help them are the hero's.

Please help us to help them find their way!  Help us make Hana a beautiful place for the local residents too!

Seclusion and rural should not also mean secret violence and misery for children and victims of abuse. Heavenly Hana is living hell for them.

We can begin by building a shelter for the victims of domestic abuse first so that they can have a fighting chance before they become so damaged that they lose their way.

Update: December 31, 2003
A letter of Thanks to our local Hero's!

Since we started this group last summer (2003) in an attempt to get attention and help from outside Hana - I have to report that we received assistance beyond our expectations! There has been a dramatic illegal drug clean up effort and a noticeable improvement in our community life. The drug dealers seem to have left town or feel less comfortable blatantly advertising their wares. We would like to thank first our state Governor Linda Lingle. She responded to our plea directly and immediately! We would also like to thank our state Chief of Narcotics Enforcement & Public Safety, Chief Keith Kamita, whose passion for his work is truly expressed through his actions. We must also thank our own Maui Police & Lieutenant, Jeffrey Tanoue for his continued dedication in upholding the highest standards of police work to help keep Maui county the safest of all the islands! We thank everyone else who has assisted to springboard our plea for help into a living reality!

Evolution and kindness thrives in Hana community today as it should in our home paradise!
