Class Make-Up Policy

If, for any reason, a student misses a class, our make-up policy is as follows:

A missed class must be made up during the session in which the class was missed. MAKE-UPS DO NOT CARRY OVER TO THE NEXT SESSION. Due to our liberal make-up policy, credits or refunds WILL NOT be issued for missed classes. You can also make-up a class in advance if you know you are going to miss. If you miss the last class of the session, it can not be made up. Students in any of our Preschool Gymnastics classes (this includes Kindergarten Gymnastics) can come to the same level class at a different time to make up the missed class. Students in our Progressive Roller, Progressive Swinger,  Pre-Competitive, and Boys Developmental classes may make up in the same level class at a different time during the session EXCEPT during the 5th week of the session. We do our skill evaluations during the 5th week and require our students to be in their proper classes. Students in our Competition Class, Pre-Team, Tumbling and Back Handspring classes are able to make up in the same level class at a different time during the session. Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Hip Hop and Baton students can come to another of the same type of class during the session.

CHEERLEADING, DANCE, TAI CHI AND TAE KWON DO STUDENTS ARE  UNABLE TO MAKE UP ANY MISSED CLASSES. NO CREDITS OR REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR ANY MISSED CHEERLEADING, DANCE, OR TAI CHI CLASSES. TALK TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR FOR MORE INFORMATION.

We encourage 100% attendance and participation. However, if you are sick you need to STAY HOME. Sick means you have had a fever in the past 24 hours, you have thrown up in the past 24 hours, you have anything contagious like the flu, a cold, chicken pox, strep throat, pink eye, fifth disease, etc. Our make-up policy gives you many opportunities to make up when you are feeling better.

Snow Days and other Weather related issues

Living in Northeast Ohio, we are all aware of the chance of snow during this session.

In the likely event that we will have some snow this winter, we are not necessarily following school closings!! The North Canton YMCA will make a decision about holding its programs when the weather is bad!! Tune your radio to WHBC 94.1 FM or 1480 AM for information on our classes. To check on classes and programs held after 3:00 PM, please call the North Canton YMCA Information Line at 330.499.4025. You will hear an updated recorded message informing you on whether or not classes are being held that afternoon and evening. If you are unable to get through on that line, call the Gymnastics Center office. Please call the information line first! The final decision is yours on whether to bring your child to class when the weather is bad. If you are uneasy about driving in inclement weather, stay home and take advantage of our make-up policy.

Class Observation/Special Observation

Because of our mezzanine, we are able to allow open observation during our gymnastics and cheerleading classes. This is really a privilege. Many other gymnastics programs do not allow parent observation because it can distract from a gymnast’s concentration. We are lucky to have the mezzanine available—it allows enough distance from the class area, but still assures your child that you are watching. Please be considerate in the mezzanine and treat it like you would your own home. Do not allow your children to bang on or play on the bleachers. This is not only disruptive, but dangerous. Children should not be playing on or around the stairs, restrooms, or team dressing rooms. Also, please be RESPECTFUL of the TEAM dressing rooms. These are to be used by our Girl’s competitive team only. Parent observation for dance and Tae Chi will be allowed only on the 6th week.

Parking

Please be cautious in the parking lot. The parking lot is not only used by us, but by all the other businesses in the Plaza. Take care not to park in reserved spaces. If you park in a handicap space and you do not have a state-issued permit YOUR CAR WILL BE TOWED - consider this a warning. Do not allow preschoolers and other young children to walk through the parking lot without assistance.  You may drop off older children in the loading area in front of the entrance. If you are   picking up your child, they are to wait inside the lobby and watch for you. They are not permitted to wait outside. Our parking lot will be very full at times. We recommend that you allow yourself a few extra minutes to get to class just in case you need to park in the other side of the plaza. You may park in any spot that is not reserved. We understand (sometimes we can’t even find a “good” spot), but remember that not everyone will get to park in front of the door.

Cancelled Classes

Occasionally we must cancel classes and schedule a make-up due to a big gymnastics event. We are a premier gymnastics facility and consequently we do some big state wide competitions and big high school events
