QUILTS I HAVE MADE

Sampler--This was my very first attempt at quilting. I made my own cardboard templates from copied designs off another quilt or some from magazines. Cut all pieces with scissors. Did each block individually, (didn't know about rotary cutters, chain piecing, or strip piecing). Certainly was not aware of the complicated blocks I was attempting to make until I began to sew them together. It's a miracle I didn't quit then. This was in 1994. I feel it turned out pretty well, under the circumstances. Thanks to a lot of good quilting instructors on T.V. and practice, practice, and more practice, I'm still quilting and loving it.

Bear Paw --This king sized quilt was made for my oldest son, Chuck in August of 1996. It was all machine quilted, with stitch in the ditch, clam shells in the dark blue triangles, and echo quilting in the border. Believe me, on close inspection it is nowhere near perfect. Can you tell he loves blue?

Stained Glass Butterflies--I saw this in a magazine (not sure which, but plan to check), feel in love with it and just had to make it. I freehand enlarged the pattern, and was thrilled how well it turned out. I made all my own bias strips. The leaves and flowers that look white are actually pale green. The colors are very close to the picture I copied from. I finished this in December of 1996. I have no place to display it, so it is folded up in a pillowcase and put away for now.
Have finally had a chance to check where the pattern was. It was in McCall's Needlework & Crafts, April 1986. Longer ago than I had thought.

Bible CoversThru my Church, I became involved in the Rock of Ages Prison Ministry. For a year and a half now, a pastor and some of the ladies go to a girl's detention home once a week. Last year for Christmas (97), we decided to make bible covers as gifts for the girls. They liked them so well that after they make their adjustment and attend our church service three times, they all receive one. My pastor's wife liked them so well she asked me to make them to sell for Christmas last year and it has continued right on. I sell them for what it costs me to make them, because I enjoy making them. They are all stipple quilted (my favorite to do). I will be showing some others soon.

Picture on the left is the front of the cover. Pattern is the crown of thorns. Picture on the right is the cover opened up. On the back is a cross within a cross. Both blocks have been imported into EQ3 from Block Base. This is the very first cover I made and it was for my daughter Chrissy.
Please ignore the other colors in the background. My choice of backgrounds was not very good.

Photo Album Wall Hanging Quilt that I made for my secret sister at church, Oct. 1998. I scanned the pictures and enlarged them in Presto Page Manager's Image Folio. Printed them onto Xerox transfer paper and ironed them onto the fabric and I just left them sit for three or four days. Then I laundered them in a white vinegar wash to set color, pressed them again upside down onto wax paper and proceeded to assemble the quilt. I have since realized that if the photo inset tabs are a darker color, it looks much nicer. I made the label in EQ3 using the page tools and transfered it into Printmaster Gold and printed it, also on transfer paper. I used Micron Pigma Pens to do the writing.
