In search of a "Brick Wall" in my Duke line, it came suddenly, with the disappearance of Thomas Duke's father in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. Thomas was born on November 10, 1786 to (Blank) Duke and Margaret Blackwell. Even though (Blank) Duke is listed on historical documents and pedigree charts throughout Williamsburg, I am still having a difficult time in locating him, his siblings, his parents and his other children.
Margaret Blackwell, Thomas Duke's mother, was the daughter of Samuel Blackwell and Elizabeth Dozier. Samuel Blackwell was the son of Samuel Blackwell who served under Francis Marion in the Revolutionary War. Margaret Blackwell was married first to (Blank) Duke, second to Samuel Adair, and third to John McClary. Thomas, in return, married John McClary's daughter, Mary Hamilton McClary.
Some of the way it was: Pedigree Chart, Duke, Williamsburg County, S. C.
