The generic boring history...

We started summer 2001 after all the bands we were in split/went shit. We started jamming and writing songs influenced by bands like Dead Kennedy’s, Minor Threat and Black Flag but didn’t really sound much like them. But we carried on, under the name of Indicator.

Feb. 2002 we recorded our first C.D "Critical Resistance" at House of Mook, Leeds. It’s more of a demo really but we got 7 tracks down. The title track is about the resisting the mainstream values of society, and trying not to be influenced by the lies, which are fed to us every single day by the corporate media. It is also used on a benefit compilation put out by Slaughter Records , called Direct Action Solidarity which is a benfit for Benefit for Haringey Solidarity Group, Haven Books for Prisoners, The Gothenburg and Genoa bust funds.

Nov. 2002 we recorded a live set at the New Roscoe, which became the "Where the fuck is Liam?" c.d. This is now sadly deleted, only a privileged few have had the pleasure…

Nov. 2002 we also recorded a full length at the House of Mook again with the mighty Phil Mook, called "Only a Future..." This title is a reference to being active and speaking out against something you disagree with; a fairly widely interpreted title, but basically meaning don't be silent or do nothing against the all the corruption and hypocrisy all around us. Silence is pretty much consent, even though how ever loud we shout they won’t listen. We contributed a track "Polluted Minds" from this towards a benefit comp put out by Punktured , for Leeds Rape Crisis. "Worthless Confession" is also on the Rise Again Records comp.

2003 we continued gigging and recorded 10 new tracks in September, again at the House of Mook in Leeds. Got to play with Active Minds, Severed Head of State, Skulls ‘n Flames and Knifed as well as loads of other ace DIY hardcore/punk bands. We started writing more thought out lyrics about issues we saw as relevant, to try and make people more aware of who listens to our music.

2004 saw our first ever line up change, our drummer Chico left due to other commitments/lack of interest, so Ben is rockin the fuck out on the drums for a while. And we’ll see how it goes...! Considered a name change, but then realised its pointless as we'll only been known as "ex-Indicator" for ages anyway. So we are still INDICATOR. The split 7" with Radio Alice is also ready, on Hermit Records .
