Arrival Time

Children should arrive at school between 8:20 and 8:30. The tardy bell rings at 8:35. Attendance is taken to the office at that time. We find that many children "can't wait" to get to school and are asking parents to bring them earlier than 8:20.

Teachers are asked to arrive at 8:00 and we reserve that time (8:00 - 8:20) for teachers. That is the only time designated for teachers' meetings, coordinating children's schedules, meeting the special needs of young children, setting up classroom activities, etc. Please REFRAIN from sending your children in during this time. Children are able to come into the classrooms at 8:20 (after the buses arrive).

Absences

If your child is unable to come to school, please call the school (456-2143) between 8:00 and 8:45. That assures us that they are safe at home.

Establishing Routines

It is important for your child to know how he/she will be getting to school each day and how he/she will be getting home. Stick to the normal routine as much as possible. If for any reason you must change that routine, please send a WRITTEN NOTE with your child explaining the change. Written notifications are preferred, but if you are unable to send a note, please call the school (456-2143) . Teachers can not allow children to just tell them of the changes. Although most kindergartners are responsible, misunderstandings may occur and we want to AVOID those. Thanks for your help!

Dismissal Time (3:15 p.m.)

Our dismissal time coordinates with the schedule of the shuttle buses to Northside and to Southside. The buses pull up to the sidewalks so children may load buses as quickly as possible. THEREFORE, NO PARKING IS ALLOWED in front of the school (on the west side of 5th Street) BEFORE THE BUSES DEPART. We will most likely use this routine for dismissal:

Transit bus: 3:10

Southside shuttle bus: 3:10

Kids picked up at Park (parent/carpool/etc.): 3:12

Northside shuttle bus: 3:15

It is not necessary for you to walk up to the door once the routine is established. Your child will recognize your vehicle, and after notifying the teacher, he/she may walk out to you. There's a lot of traffic during dismissal time. As always, if you park across the street, please assist your child across the road.
