This website is for partial fulfilment of the
course
LING2009 Languages of the World, which is
taught by Dr Stephen Matthews.
I chose Inuktitut as the subject language for this project because it is
polysynthetic. This kind of languages is diametrically alien to me. It is
interesting that words appear as sentences and they look like Lego™ blocks. I
can hardly figure out how an Inuit word is decomposed into morphemes.
After doing this project, I have gained some basic knowledge of Inuktitut. I am
impressed with its prolific morphology. I reckon it is one of the most difficult
languages to be mastered. Because of its high complexity and my limited
linguistic knowledge, I can afford only a simple introduction to the language.
