Clockwork

Clockwork "power plants" are available at TL 2. Clockworks are actually energy storage devices, not unlike batteries or homopolar generators. Clockworks may be rewound by any power plant. Time to rewind depends upon the output of the power plant and the maximum storage energy of the clockwork spring. For example a 0.001MW/hr clockwork spring may be rewound by a 1 MW power plant in 1/1000th of an hour (3.6 seconds), a 0.1MW power plant in 36 seconds, a 0.01MW power plant in six minutes or a 0.001MW power plant in an hour. A typical human has a power output of 0.000035 MW, and would take 28 and a half hours to rewind the same clockwork.

TL Description MW Mass Price (MCr)
2 Clockwork 0.00001 0.004 tonnes 0.000035

MW: Maximum output, in megawatts, at the one-hour discharge rate, per cubic meter of clockwork.
Mass: Mass of the clockwork, in tonnes, per cubic meter.
MCr: Price, in millions of credits, per cubic meter.
