FISHER

I am researching my Fisher family, and have just recently found them on the 1860 census for Hardin County.  They were living in Concord.  The head of household was James Fisher, age 30, listed as laborer, and born in Mississippi.  James's whole name was Elias James Fisher.  On this 1860 census, James and wife Sarah had five children:  Joseph, Seburn, Mary, Elizabeth, and Naomi.  I am trying to find out whatever happened to James.  By 1870, Sarah was living in Wood Co., remarried with two children by her new husband, so I have assumed that James died in the Civil War.  However, after reading several books about Hardin County, I suppose I shouldn't just assume that!  Is there anything published about the men from Hardin Co. in the Civil War?  Is there anything concerning the Jayhawkers?  Do you know of any books concerning steamboating in Hardin Co.?  James's son Joseph became and steamboat engineer by 1880, so possibly James worked on steamboats.  EMAIL: SUEWFISHER@aol.com
