My Gostelow Family and other branches |
WELCOME This site is dedicated to the Gostelow family. My particular branch comes from the Northampton/Buckinghamshire borders - having lived there from the early 17 C until the 1950's. I began to investigate my family history as it seemed an ideal way in which to study English social history generally. This has proved to be the case as I have journeyed, accompanied by many other interested family members, for over twenty years, through the English Civil War, land reform, highway robbery, agricultural riots , two world wars and just the day today business of surviving.. |

The more I search the more questions there are that need answers. What is the origin of the name? Is it from the old French "chasse loup" (wolf catcher) or does it mean "a gorse covered hill"? Is there a connection between the main two branches of the famly (circa 1580) in Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire? If you are a descended from the Gostelow family and have an interest in it's history I hope that you will sign the Guestbook and join in the fun! |
