My name is Hannah Butterworth. I live in England. I am 27. I have M.E.(Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) and have lived with this illness on and off for the past 16 years. I have experienced this illness as a child, as a teenager and now as an adult. So as you can imagine I have a lot to say about what it’s like to have the illness over the different age groups. I am interested in other people’s experiences and thoughts and perhaps sharing advice and some knowledge.About four years ago I was admitted to the specialist unit at Oldchurch Hospital, Romford under the care of Professor Findley. There I met five other people with the same condition but with different degrees of severity. This experience I truly believe has been life changing. One lady was completely bedridden at home and told me that her GP had placed her on extreme levels of morphine and as a result had become incontinent! Is this a common occurrence or has anyone else had a similar horror story? Another lady was almost bedridden but if someone was willing to push her in a wheelchair then she was able to get about a bit. Another was able to walk with the aid of a walking stick but couldn't do the stairs. Which leaves two others and me, we could all get about for short distances but with difficulties. The ladies I met taught me something important about myself, that no matter how fast you try and run from whatever issues you may have sooner or later you do come face to face with them. I am setting these web pages up in memory of a dear sweet lady I met up at the hospital. Margaret Gunney. I was sure that she would be the first to recover but unfortunately this never happened. She left all her frustration and suffering behind her and now lives in a better place where these things no longer way her down and she can be free. She died three years ago.
I'm starting up these pages because I believe that the other web sites don't offer the chance for the younger generations to share their experiences with their peers, although I want to make it clear that you don't have to be young. It is my hope that people when they e-mail in will feel free to express their true feelings about whatever they feel is important to them you can do this at Talk to me. You can send in your pictures, poems, stories (funny or serious) or something that people will find inspirational. I want people to think that they can contribute to this site to help me make this as successful as I possibly can and so for that I would like and need your feed-back and comments whether they are positive or not quite so. I believe strongly in the freedom of expression and that there is not always a right or a wrong answer to what people think or say. I think that what people believe is more important than being concerned about what's right and what's wrong!
