Is it expensive to be a toastmaster ?

For an investment in your future, of $66 a year, you can become a member of the Hangtown Toastmasters. A new member fee of $33 is charged and the initial membership dues are prorated according to what month you join. Dues are collected semi-annually.

What do I receive for this new member fee ?

A new member kit includes the starter manual "Communications and Leardership", a mentor request form and an "Effective Speech Evaluation" manual. Every month you will receive the Toastmasters magazine.

How soon do I have to give a speech ?

After you attend a few meetings, you will want to contact the Education Vice President to schedule your first speech. It will be the Ice Breaker and it's about you for just 4 - 6 minutes. You can practice with your mentor before giving it before the club. Toastmasters is self-paced so you determine when you are ready. Participating in club meeting duties will give you practice in a variety of communication experiences preparing you for your own speech project.

What type of support will I receive ?

You will receive positive, friendly support helping you gain self-confidence. A mentor will help you with your first few speeches. You will have access to educational modules, video tapes, audio cassettes and books available.

Why not attend a class or seminar instead ?

Seminars can be very helpful; so can college classes. But when they are over, what then? Think of Toastmasters as a weekly workshop for learning skills in communication and leadership. A Toastmaster club is there for you as long as you want to participate.

How do I join ?

First, attend one of our Toastmaster meetings to observe and listen. Fill out an application available at the meeting, sign the bottom and write out your check. You will receive your new member kit within a week.
