Bruny Island, Tasmania January 2001
Putting together a report of the past year is difficult - too much has happened -  my diary averages about two pages per day. So how do I  compress this into a short, readable, informative and entertaining form ?
Basically, since November, we have been living on Bruny Island in a beach-side shack we were renting. We have fallen in love with this island, and want to make a base here. It's a great place for surfing, mountain bike riding, snorkelling, fishing and just relaxing. Except for the holiday times, it is very quiet, as there are only about 500 permanent residents spread over a handful of settlements.

Over Christmas/ New Year ,when our landlady temporarily reoccupied her cottage, we experienced the delights of country life at a farmhouse about 70 km, south of Hobart, in Tasmania. We were looking after the place while the owners went to Queensland for about three weeks. Actually, all we had to do was feed the dog (a King Charles Spaniel called Truffles) and take him for a walk once or twice a day to the beach about 20 Mins. away. Here we also collected the mail from the recycled inside of a washing machine which served as a mailbox beside the main road.

Here we are in front of our 'shack' on Bruny Island
