POLICE : Police are quite difficult symbols in that they can mean several things. Of course the police maybe about the breaking of all kinds of rules : Rules in the classroom, health and safety regulations, contract law, conventions concerning etiquette, and actual laws of the land. But police are about so much more. The police have an overall goal of creating general order in society and in dreams they can perform a similar role. They may symbolise the need for peace and quiet and harmony in life. In order to think properly we need some order in our lives. Occasionally our lives are so full of commotion that we cannot think properly. So dreams with police in may link to incidents from the previous day which caused disorder in our minds. Also in relationships we set each other limits. We have our own boundaries that must not be crossed. So police may represent anger at someone who makes you do things you are uncomfortable with.

KEY WORDS(Pick a quote which captures your feelings right now. Think especially of the day before the dream) :
- "Thats a forbidden subject - we are not allowed to mention it because he is sensitive about it"
- "Thats off limits"
- "my peace of mind"
- "breaking the rules"
- "thats not right"
- "getting found out", "caught in the act"
- "we do things this way!"
- "what's the commotion?"
- "calming her down"
- "its totally against what he thinks is acceptable"

DREAM STUDIES : Real dreams with police in them
------------
THE DREAM An officer asked me to strip for a police party, while he should have been arresting me. I said maybe later, with no real intention of doing it. I saw a guy smoking marihuana from a huge coconut. I went into an older cripple mans house and smoked with him ( I haven't smoked in a long time). I had to leave him, but I felt bad because he was so lonely and nice and I knew everyone was using him. I was worried about my fiancé' finding out, so I had to leave. I had been there before, so I knew my way around. The coconut was so big, and it had a huge joint in it.

THE REALITY The dreamer had just opened up to her fiancé and told him exactly how she felt about him. She was not usually one for showing her deep feelings.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I was talking to my fiancé and said something I should not about my ex. I do not like talking about feelings and it opened the floodgates. My fiancé wanted to have an open and honest discussion"

THE INTERPRETATION Dreams capture our emotions but in symbolic form. Here the stripping is a strong symbol and since the dreamer had just been revealing her true(naked) feelings to her fiancé then its fair to assume that the dream links to this. Thats especially the case as the dream features her fiancé. Stripping links to moments when we show our true emotions.

What else can the dream show? Well its not an easy dream to understand symbolically but we can pick up a sense of awkwardness and even a strong sense of guilt. That links to the dreamers feelings in reality as she did feel awkward revealing her true feelings. Normally its her fiancée that is the one to get emotional.

Perhaps the other symbols build up this picture of how the dreamer thinks. The police could symbolise how she feels as if revealing her true feelings is somehow against some rules that she has about relationships(her own rules about what is the right way to behave). Its a police party so any rules that she does have will not be enforced as vigorously as the police are off their guard. The drugs could symbolise how this sharing of emotions is very new to the dreamer. Its almost like its a whole different reality.

Symbolic Meanings
DRUGS : "sharing feelings is a while new world for the dreamer"
GUILT : "the dreamers sense of guilt and awkwardness showing her true feelings"
POLICE : "the dreamers own unwritten rules about what is the right way to behave in relationships"
POLICE PARTY : "the dreamer is off guard and less likely to enforce her own rules"
STRIPPING : "revealing your own true feelings"
----------------------------------
DREAM TIP : Police in real life refer to real and strict rules which we must obey. In dreams police will often link to unwritten rules and coventions about how we ought to behave. Constantly we interact with other human beings and there are unwritten rules that govern what is appropriate behavior. For instance people form queues in banks and shops. If someone pushes in then this causes anger and hostility. Its not an offence you can get arrested for but people will 'police' such laws themselves. Within our own relationships there are also unwritten rules. For example you may have a friend who is sensitive about an ex girlfriend. So one unwritten law is that you should not mention that person. To mention her would be a crime. We constantly 'police' our own boundaries.
----------------------------------
THE DREAM - HINDERWELL - I am at a house which is someone called Mr. Right lives in. My best friend is in the house. The police are there and he has cornered and then they shoot right into the house. There house is riddled with bullets. Then the word Hinderwell appears in my mind. Finally all that remains is for the sister of my best friend and me to go in and collect the body

THE REALITY The dreamer had not done a task at work that she was due to complete. She had to think up and excuse or explain away this fact. The dream was about that

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I have not completed my task at work. I am sure to be found out. But I do not really want to get caught. "

THE INTERPRETATION Dreams can often link to issues from the day before but they can equally symbolise our thoughts about something that is likely to happen on the actual day of the dream. In this case something was on the dreamers mind. He had not completed a work task and feared been found out.

The key to this dream is in the word plays. This dream features this word HINDERWELL. This is a name of an area in the dreamers home town. Its an obvious play on words and can easily link to the wish to "hinder some investigations as well as possible".

It just so happens that there was a situation where such a theme was highly relevant. So thats clearly what this dream is about. The dreamer was clearly having to think up some arguments to defend himself. What exactly does the dream mean though?

Guns often link to well targeted and precise criticism. In this case this may show that he needs to be prepared to face lots of tough questions about his work task.

The dream also features another strong wordplay. The Mr. Wright is clearly a wordplay here which links to issues of right and wrong.

Symbolic Meanings
BEST FRIEND : "my own ideal situation"
CORNER : "unseen consequences"
HINDERWELL : "a play on words - a wish to hinder her boss"
MR. WRIGHT : "a synonym - the need to find the RIGHT path"
POLICE : "being caught out breaking the rules"
SHOOT : "focusing on the rules that have been broken"
SISTER : "think openly and freely on a subject - thinking through what is likely to happen"
---------------------------------
DREAM TIP : If the police appear in your dreams then think about the phrase "caught in the act!" If you feel like you are about to be found out in some way then it is possibly this issue which has triggered the dream. This can refer to any issue. For instance if you have been cheating on your boyfriend or girlfriend then there is a risk you will be found out. If you have filled in your expenses form and lied or exaggerated the true amount then you can easily be found out. If you have been spreading rumours about a friend then that maybe discovered and you will get punished in some way.
---------------------------------
THE DREAM Last night I dreamt of my husband with another blond woman that I don't know. There was something that was going on in the town and somebody got killed and I wanted him to go investigate or do something but he was just ignoring me and he was holding his woman in his lap. I was so pissed off and angry, I took a hammer and I was trying to break things. I felt so helpless and I felt if I break something I will be relived from those feelings. I hit things that look like a glass shelf but it didn't break, no matter how hard I was hitting it didn't break. And I woke up angry. I wasn't angry about him being with another woman, I was mad at him for not doing anything to find out what happened.

THE REALITY In real life a day before the dream the dreamer had a fight with her boss and almost quit her job. It was very bad, and the dreamer was glad her boss hung up the phone on her because she was about to tell her:"this is it, I am done working for you". She was in a mood all day and couldn't get to sleep easily.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I had a real argument with my boss and nearly quit yesterday. It stuck with me all day"

THE INTERPRETATION The dream seems to be about this very important issue. If something was absolutely dominating your feelings the day before the dream then its likely that the dreamer will have a dream on the issue.

Having said that the dream has two possible meanings. In life we are wedded to many things and not just our husband and wives. So maybe the husband symbolises the dreamers marriage to her work. She has commitments and responsibilities just like in real life. In that way the anger she has towards her husband in the dream represents her anger towards the boss.

A second explanation is possible. A husband has certain responsibilities and maybe he has failed in his respoinsibilities here. The major feeling in the dream is that her husband has failed to ask her what was wrong. He should intuitively know when something is wrong and help and support his wife whilst these problems occured. The dream has then made the point that his failing here is as bad as any cheating with another woman. Dreams can be overly dramatic in the points they make. Simply the main emotion from the dream was that her husbnad was ignoring her. The stopryline that this was wrapped around was irrelevant. The dream captured his main mood.

But overall the dream undoubtedly captures that sense of real anger. The hammer is a perfect symbol for her mood. It perfectly caught her emotions from the day.

Symbolic Meanings
GLASS : "see through issue"
KILL : "wanting to resist something"
POLICE : "a need to restore order to your own peace of mind"
-------------------------------------
DREAM TIP : Police dreams may often be very easy to understand. The primary function of the police in dreams is to restore order to the mind. There are occasions when chaos breaks out in our thinking. Things are going too fast and we need to take stock and restore order. So think back to the day before the dream and look for issues which are causing chaos in your thinking. Such a dream means that you need to take time out and have a think. You just wish to settle things down.
-------------------------------------
THE DREAM I am in a pub. It seems to have been attacked by a group of scousers. There is a narrow alleyway that leads from our pub to their pub. We start off to give them a "right kicking". But their appear to be police on the way so I hide in a court yard. Later I am in some kind of war. There appears to be some middle eastern guy who is almost naked and his wounds appear. He was shot right across his stomach. From the bottom left to the top right. There is another guy there who also has scars on him. He seems to have been walked all over and has deep imprints on him. Then I am in this room. Its like a one room building. I have this kind of heart thing on me but it stinks. There is an Native American there who is looking at me.

THE REALITY The dreamer woke up and thought of a group of people at work whom he was imposing his ideas on.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "Maybe I have been too bossy as far as my ideas are concerned. I tend to impose my ideas at work. Maybe I should be more willing to listen"

THE INTERPRETATION Quite often when you wake up some immediate issue will rise to the surface. Its quite possible that the dream is about that. Dreams are also about very abstract ideas. So what evidence is there to link to this "issue"?

The dreamer immediately seemed to link this dream to the work situation where he felt he was not considering the ideas of others. This tendency was also getting to quite a general tendency within him. And indeed on first inspection the dream does seem to be at least consistent.

The dream deals with football supporters and violent male attitudes. What better symbols for an aggressive tendency to impose your views and attitudes on others. The dream also deals with middle eastern people which can obviously link to the issue of prejudice. So perhaps the dreamer was starting to realise his own prejudices and his own tendency to trample all over other peoples opinions.

The dreamer tended to think of himself as rather a spiritual person and that can obviously link to the Native American. But there is a smell attached to this so he is noticing that his own spiritual nature which he cherishes is actually not so spiritual in reality.

So the dream does seem to link to the issue that the dreamer woke up thinking about. Its worth looking for some connections to such issues. Dreams are linked to new feelings rising to the surface in your own subconscious. So look for those nagging issues that keep you awake at night.

Symbolic Meanings
ALLEY : "unaware of other peoples views - the dreamer realises he does not listen to other peoples views"
COURT : "people judging the dreamers behavior"
HEART : "the dreamer likes to get to the heart of the matter - but does not listen to others"
NARROW : "a need to widen your vision - being small minded and not open to new ideas"
POLICE : "a need not to break rules and conventions - listening to others "
------------------------------------
THE DREAM when I DID eventually get to sleep, I dreamed that I was at home (not university home - home home), and I was walking up my road, and the Rasta man/hippy who has his guts ripped out in 'Live Organ Transplants' in The Meaning of Life (played by Terry Gilliam) was having his house raided by the police and they were carrying his computer out, and he was like 'no man, thats got my Terry Jones photos on it! and the police were like 'yes, thats why we're taking it away - its illegal' and as I was walking up my street, practically everyone was having their computers confiscated for having Terry Jones photos on it!

Then they got to my house and they were carrying out our home computer and my dad was like 'what are you doing? I don't even like Terry Jones! I think Monty Python is a load of rubbish!' and the police were saying that I'd got images in my user area so thats why and it's not personal! lol all I remember thinking was that I sure as hell wasn't going to tell them I'd got my laptop in my backpack because I'd never get my T-shirts made, and feeling really nervous in case they searched me!!

THE REALITY The dreamer had recently become very interested in Terry Jones off Monty Python. He is a great writer and she is interested in him for his talents as well as his fame. The night before she was looking on the Internet with her best friend. She was looking for pictures so she could make a Terry Jones T-shirt. She was due to meet terry Jones who was about to present a talk on Chaucer.

Her boyfriend does not like Monty Python and they recently had a big fight about it recently. The dreamer lied about the talk with Terry Jones and merely said that she was going to a talk about Chaucer.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "My boyfriend hates Monty Python. I dare not tell him that I am going to a talk held by Terry Jones of the Monty Python team. He is already jealous. He thinks I think more of Monty Python than him. Its ridiculous. Its like I am breaking the law or something"

THE INTERPRETATION In this dream the police act like its a major criminal act the dreamer has committed. Police in dreams can represent the laws and need for order within our own lives. Clearly her boyfriend is very anti Monty Python and it is something that is clearly against what he considers wrong(against his laws). So in order to preserve the peace and maintain order within her life she has lied about the fact that she was meeting someone who her boyfriend clearly dislikes.

Fathers are often symbols of a need to prevent something get out of hand. So maybe the dreamer is using him as a symbol. She wants to lie to her boyfriend to prevent the situation from getting out of hand. She knows he will over react.

Symbolic Meanings
FATHER : "The dreamer wants to prevent an issue getting out of hand and so lies in order to cause trouble"
POLICE : "The dreamer is aware that her boyfriend clearly disapproves of Terry Jones and Monty Python"
----------------------------
DREAM TIP : The fact is that dreams represent your thoughts. So simply work the process in reverse. Look for evidence of your thoughts in your dreams. If for instance the day before was very stressful then look for evidence of that stress. Exactly which symbols could represent that stress.
----------------------------------------
THE DREAM I was at my workplace. There was a college tutor there from a few years ago. I stole a dollars which had been left on the table. I thought the wouldn't notice

THE REALITY The dreamers job was not particularly impressive. He did well at college and the day before the dream he had been looking over some of the work he did. He wanted people to recognise his ability more.

DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer - "I was looking over my old college projects and thinking how well I did. I just want people to see how much talent I really have. "

THE INTERPRETATION The dream featured the dreamers old college tutor. The dreamer had been thinking about his college work the night before and was looking through his old projects. It was a nostalgic look back at how well he had done. The link between these two things makes the dreams topic understood totally - it was about the dreamers current feelings about his college work.

Recently the dreamer had been feeling undervalued. Money can link to value and self worth. The dreamer had been thinking and fantasizing about how well he could do if given the chance.

Symbolic Meanings
COLLEGE TUTOR : "this links the dream with the real life thoughts about college from the previous night"
STEAL : "wanting to be recognised as talented and impressive"
----------------------------
DREAM TIP : Think about the actual day of the dream. Have you been thinking about some important event that is happening then? Have you been thinking about how you are going to put some plans into action. Dreams may focus on the day to come and how you are relating to problems you wish to solve.
