MOTHERS : Mothers tend to relate to our emotional concern for both
ourselves and for the people around us. As far as yourself is concerned the
mother maybe symbolises your wishes for reassurance, your own worries and
concerns about the way your life is going. The mother may symbolise your own
wish to take a cautious and safe approach and not wanting to make hasty decisions(a
wish not to be pressured). The mother can also symbolise our behavior towards
others. They may be symbolic of our worries and concerns for others such as
coworkers.
KEY WORDS(Pick a quote which captures your feelings right now. Think especially
of the day before the dream) :
- "make me feel at home"
- "feeling sorry for myself"
- "I need reassuring"
- "helping her out"
- "being worried about it"
- "taking your time to make the right decision"
- "a need for closure"
- "a need to be sensible"

DREAM STUDIES : Real dreams with mothers in them
-------------------------------
THE DREAM I have had a re-occuring dream for a few months now, It occurs
every few weeks or so but it always the same basic thing. In these dreams
I receive notice that my mother is dying (who is in relatively good health,
as opposed to my father who has bad health) and I try so hard to get to her
in time but I am never able to. I remember one scene of one of the dreams
is that I am running down a winding, dirt path to try and get to her but I
am never able to get to her or see her before she dies.
THE REALITY The dreamer has decided to enlist in the Peace Corps. and this
is a hard choice for him since he is extremely close with his family.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "I have enlisted with the Peace Corps. This is a hard decision for
me to make since I am going to have to leave my family whom I am very close
to."
THE INTERPRETATION Death in dreams signifies change and transition. The dream
then could be about a major change looming in the dreamers life. In this case
there is a major change looming he is going to join the Peace Corps.
Mothers in dream generally link to emotions. In many cases they can show our
concern for someone. They can also show our worries. In this sense they symbolise
the dreamers home environment. This provides safety and security. There is
always someone on hand to help him and show sympathy. If he joins the Peace
Corps then much of that safe environment dissapears. So in effect that element
of his life dies when he leaves home. That is why his mother dies in the dream.
Symbolic Meanings
MOTHER : "the security and stability that the dreamers home environment
provides"
MOTHER DIES : "if he moves abroad then that life with his family will
die "
------------------------------
DREAM TIP : Dreams link to issues alive in our minds. A mother will
link to cautious and sensible emotional thoughts and concerns. So look through
your current feelings and think through what happened yesterday. What issues
featured a theme which could link to a mother. Think of the words "worries","concerns","reassurance","closure","welcoming
nature" and see if any fit into issues and thoughts alive in your mind
right now.
-----------------------------
THE DREAM I am at somebody's home. They appear to have several children
- three I think. I am playing with the children and the mother says he appears
to like the children.
THE REALITY The day before was a depressing and dull day for the dreamer.
He decided to do something about it and get out and about.
DREAM MEANING The dream captures the following feeling within the dreamer
- "Yesterday was a depressing and dull day. Today I have got to do something
interesting"
THE INTERPRETATION The children stand for enthusiasm for life. They also symbolise
the freedom the dreamer has to go and do things to interest him. He had a
dull start to the weekend and then decided to get out and about on the Sunday.
His plans had been disrupted and now he had to think of new things to fill
the gap.
Notice that the dream involves the number three : Three is often a play on
words(3 sound like free). So this number symbolises freedom of choice. It
shows that you are free to do something and free to decide not to. This is
an issue over which you have freedom of will. Children are often linked with
new projects and interests that make us enthusiastic. The dreamer was able
to spot where this dream was triggered. The previous day his plans had been
disrupted and it ended up rather a dull day. The next day could have been
the same but he decided to think of something new to pass fill the void.
Symbolic Meanings
CHILDREN : "a need to get enthusiastic about something - the dreamer
needs to find something he is enthusiastic about"
MOTHER : "worries - the dreamers own worries about his lifestyle and
a recognition he was in a rut"
THREE : "freedom of will - the dreamer realises its up to him to make
the choice"
