FORKING HAMISH: The Foody's Guide To Dining
Whilst those close to me know that I wouldn't ordinarily advocate the eating of rare and endangered species, this particular albatross took an instant dislike to me (and my family).  Consequently, when dipped in batter, this so-called "Avian Prince of the Skies" made for quite a gamey schnitzel when lathered and deep fried in batter.
After an hors d'oeuvre of dry crackers topped with a blow-fly paste that was to die for, "Ol' Spidey" was a crispy main course and made an elegant diversion when served (fricaseed) on the under-side of a piece of dry bark.
The one that got away...  Having devoured the elderly organ grinder first I discovered I had no room left for his furious monkey.  I daresay he'd have been absolutely tantalizing once glazed and served with a pert dessert sautern.
Felines number amongst the most interestingly textured edibles when it comes to jellies.  This one left an aftertaste that's described in cosmopolitan circles as a 'cheeky tickle'.
Nature finds a way of making dinner of itself.  These playful fellows couldn't have predicted the important role they'd end up winning in my stew.  With a blender and the addition of a few simple 'erbs: oregano, paprika and such, one can ladle up a nourishing jackal thickshake.
Everyone's favourite Aunty knew the health benefits of elephant chutneys.  Filled with anti-oxidants, it is an irritating mystery to me why this most lip-smacking condiment isn't as readily available as salsa in restaurants across the state.  Perhaps a word in the ear of our friends in the Cookery Media is in order...
Go Back Home
Salvador Dali impressarios are by and large an odd-tasting bunch,  this one was no exception, though he made quite a merry chase.  Tasting faintly of lemon rinds, this one was exceptional with a side order of chips and a good helping of potato salad.  In summer-time this snack lends itself to a range of cleansing ales and / or draught beers.
I started this autumnal forest for lunch amongst friends in 1996.  By early 1998 I'd made serious in-roads into the dish and broken seven pairs of salad tongs into the bargain!  It tasted delicious with French Dressing, some green olives and diced chunks of fetta cheese.  It's been said my eyes are bigger than my stomache, but it certainly wasn't so in this instance.
