Exercises for students
Solve the following problems on paper and check your working using the above applet:

Find the no. of ways in which 10 people can be divided into
(a) two groups consisting of 6 & 4 people,
(b) three groups consisting of 5, 3 & 2 people,
(c) two groups consisting of 5 people each.

A team of 6 people is to be chosen from 12 people.
The team consists of a 1st pair, a 2nd pair & a 3rd pair, but order within each pair does not matter.
Find the no. of different ways in which this can be done.

3 teachers and 9 students is to go on an excursion. Each teacher owns a car, and each car can accomodate 4 people including the driver. Each teacher drives his/her own car for the excursion.
Find the no. of ways in which the 9 students may be allocated to the cars.
[The arrangement of people within a particular car is not relevant.]

Prizes are to be awarded to 3 different members of a group of 6 people.
Find the no. of ways in which the prizes can be awarded
(a) if there is a 1st prize, a 2nd prize & a 3rd prize.
(b) if there are one 1st prize & two consolation prizes.

A primary school teacher has 5 apples & 3 oranges to share among 8 children, with each child receiving 1 fruit.
Find the no. of different ways in which this can be done.
