WELCOME TO THE
JOSEPHBURG RIDING CLUB
Is your family looking for a fun and exciting new way to enjoy your horses?  Then come on out and ride with the Josephburg Riding Club!  We are a family oriented club located just east of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, at the Josephburg Recreation Grounds, on the corner of Township Road #550 and Range Road # 213.  This is a safety minded gymkhana suitable for all ages and all ability levels - our emphasis is on having fun.
WHAT IS GYMKHANA?
Gymkhana means a competition in which horse and rider compete against others in timed events which test both speed and agility.

At the Josephburg Riding Club, each 'meet' consists of four main events:  Barrel Racing; Pole Bending; Stakes Race; and Flagpicking (or Keyhole for the younger riders); plus Novelties, which are fun, impromptu contests such as the Egg & Spoon Race, Ride and Rescue, or various Relays.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Anyone who has a horse to ride; safe, servicable tack; and a desire for fun and companionship with other horse lovers may ride as a guest, or become a member and compete for year-end awards.

At JRC's gymkhanas, "speed and agility" range from 'highly competitive' to 'just out for a jog' and 'just hoping to get through it at walk.'  All riders are welcome and respected.

We have divisions for Lead-Line, Pee-Wee, Juniors, Intermediates, Ladies, Men & Seniors..
DOES MY HORSE NEED SPECIAL TRAINING?
No.  Virtually any horse can participate in gymkhana.  He needs to be sound and healthy, and able to turn and stop on command.  From there, most people introduce the various patterns at a walk, and move up as the horse gets accustomed to the environment, the pattern, and the markers (barrels, poles, etc.) in the arena.  Gymkhana work is excellent for working on suppling, lead changes,  and for keeping horses in heavy training from getting bored or sour.
IS THAT ALL?
Absolutely Not!

We also have go on group trail-rides, have camp-outs, a year-end banquet and dance, participate in local parades, and in other events as deemed by the membership.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
Annual membership rates are reasonable, or you can ride as a "guest" for a daily fee.

Single - $35
Family - $55
Guest Rider - $10/gymkhana
CAN I WIN PRIZES?
You bet!  Flat ribbons are given out to fifth place for daily gymkhanas, and members with four or more gymkhanas are eligable for year end awards of rosettes, trophies and/or tack prizes.

Members can also ride in the annual "Horse of the Day" gymkhanas, competing for valuable prizes.

JRC is also a member of the Edmonton Gymkhana Association and members have the option of competing through EGA and becoming eligible for their year-end prizes, which include high-point saddles.
