Name: Gerrard Edgstan, Duke of Eisford
Nicknames: ...anything outside "your grace" or "Lord Edgstan" would be a tiny bit inappropriate.
Age: 41
Birthplace: Edgstan, his family holdings

Family: The Edgstans are closely related to the royal family through several marriages, and would have a legitimate claim to the throne if they died out. But really, the Edgstans have relatives all over the bloody country, and Ger's responsible for the well-being of most of them. The only others at court are his younger brother, William, and Will's rather large family.  Ger's rather close to his nieces and nephews, and also a tiny bit terrified of the overwhelming, bossy domesticity of his brother's wife.

Appearance: Dark hair, greying slightly at the temples, very dark blue eyes, and a grave, premeditated manner. He's tall, and has a swordsman's callouses on his hands.

Personality: He's polite, very formal, and rather reclusive; he spends a lot of time in the library, or in one of his studies. He's kind to those that deserve it. He's also a master at manipulating manners and the rules of a court, to show disapproval or insult while remaining within the bounds of propriety. For the most part, he's considerate, and due to the ages of most of the other characters about the RP, he tends to come off as having a paternal air. He
does have a sense of humor, but it only tends to come out around those closer to him.

Hobbies: literature, mostly Breklakkian, studying gypsy culture, astronomy. He's also very good at fencing, and in his rasher days always wore a rapier at his side. He still practices nightly, as the exercise has proved a good way to order his mind and clear his head.

Magic: He's a fire mage, actually, and his personality reflected that a lot more in his youth than it does now. I think he has a temper to match his magic, but I have no idea what could incite it at this point. His magic is at midling strength, but perfectly under control.

Relationships: He married a Breklakkian grand duchess (or princess) when he was twenty-three. It was a very good match, both for social and personal reasons. Sonya died ten years later in childbirth, and the child, a daughter, was stillborn. It's known well-enough around court, but it was a long time ago and there's no reason to bring it up. He's also had a mistress for the past three years, a beautiful widow in her mid-thirties, who is reclusive as he. They're very discreet.

Important People:
William: His heir, his brother, and his best friend, in that order. They're very close, and would always be at each other's backs.
Mercia: His mistress, whom he also shares a companionable friendship with.

Friends: Etoile de Poitiers, who shares his formal tendencies and welcomes literature recommendations, and Morgan Redderson, an old school friend. For the sake of the latter he tried to clean up the after-effects of Fiona Redderson's various destructive whims. He considers her much like a daughter and would help her if she needed it, but she generally prefers to draw pictures of him burning and with devil horns.

Story: Not much that hasn't already been covered. He spends the winter and spring at court, where he has the ear of the king, and the summer and autumn at the seat of Duchy Eisford.
