JASC JET Journal Links Y'all Pictures

Updated 1/24/05
Well, it's been a while since I've done anything with this site, but looking at things as they are now I don't see anything being done in the near future. I'm thinking about reformatting the journal to be in chronological order, so that will take some time. My thoughts still aren't very focused right now since I still haven't found a job and my motivation is at an all time low. Any "final thoughts" that I put down about Japan are bound to not be as honest as they would if my life was in order at this point, so I'm refraining from that as well. So, I guess we'll see what we see.

I've updated the Journal with the last of the entires from Japan. I may do a reflection type entry sometime down the road, but that remains to be seen. Only one week left before I'm free from here. In the mean time enjoy this Engrish from a mountain bike I saw at the local 7-11.

I've updated the Journal after going to my friend's wedding on Sunday. I hope that all the pics are big enough, but if they aren't let me know and I'll reload some bigger images.

I showed up to school today with a rather big surprise. Apparently Minami JHS was broken in to around 3 a.m. last night and close to $800 was taken from a couple of teachers desks. All the teachers that had their desks broken into were fingerprinted, including yours truly. I'm glad I never leave anything of value behind whenever I leave school...

I couldn't resist not putting a link for this up. I like how Japan Tobacco is trying to avoid the point that smoking is a health hazard. Instead they've started a campaign about being a considerate smoker...what a load crap.

I have uncharacteristically added a new Journal mostly dealing with my trips to Kamakura and Nikko while my parents were here visiting. There is a little something more at the end though.

I was bored enough at school to write another Journal but it's not a journal in the truest sense. I have sunk to using student writings so that I have something to talk about...lord, that month at Shiraoka JHS really killed any desire I had to do, well, anything. Go on and give it a read.

I'm not known to be any kind of major commentator on important topics, but I stumbled upon this article over at Japan Today by an angered Japanese expat living in NYC. I found it amusing to see her complaining about Lost in Translation being racist and potraying Japanese people in the wrong light. The first thing that popped into my head was, "Well, honestly speaking, Japan is far worse in terms of portraying foreign people. The concept of being "politically correct" doesn't seem to register with a lot of important people. Hell, the governor of Tokyo blames all crime on foreigners!!! I wish people like this author would take a look in her own back yard before she starts complaining about her neighbors...

I don't really have anything interesting to say as of late, so there is no new jounal. However, I did come across this sign when I went into Omiya on one of my days off last week. You see, in Japan you're not tan, you're "black." Plus it's not called "tanning" it's called "day baking." And not only is it a shop called "Blacky," but it's a Hyper Tanning Salon. Woo hoo!! Go Japan!!

I was riding around town yesterday and I stumbled across this sign. I have no idea how I had missed this one in the 2 1/2 years I've been here.

I'm not sure if you can see it, but the front of the sign is just a bunch of stacked monkeys, but the back side is so kind as to show their rears in all their red assed glory.

I have posted a new Journal for all to view. I'm also thinking about making all the picture pages in to photo galleries. I have to play around with it before it becomes definite though. I will be resizing the pictures so they load faster though. It will take a while, but I'll get it done.

As an added treat I threw in this picture of the "Christmas Tree" that was in front of Shiraoka station, blech...

I have archived all the journals for 2003 and I will be starting the new year with a brand new journal sometime this month.
