2000 Marching Vanguard Staff
        Damon Underwood

   Mr. Underwood graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School in Smithfield N.C. in 1990.  After graduation Mr. Underwood went on to recieve his B.S. in music education from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee N.C.  While attending W.C.U. Mr. Underwood performed with numerous ensembles and served as the Drum Major for the
Marching Cats. In addition he has been the Drum Major of the 1993 Divison Two World Champion, Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as a marching member of the 1991 Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Underwood was previously band director at Wake Forest Rolesville H.S. in Wake Forest N.C.  He currently is a drill designer for many top bands among the Carolinas and is serving as Assistant Director of Bands at South Johnston H.S.in Four Oaks N.C.
               Ryan Jacobs

   Mr. Jacobs Graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School in Smithfield N.C. in 1993.  After graduation he spent three years at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee N.C.  He was also a marching member of the 1993 Division Two World Champion,
Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as a marching member of the 1995 Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps.  Mr. Jacobs has served as a marching and music clinician throughout the South East working with some of North Carolina's finest programs.  He is currently attending East Carolina University working on a degree in Elementary Education and serves as a marching and music instructor for the South Johnston Vanguard Marching Band in Four Oaks N.C.  Click here to visit his personal photo album containing family and friends.

         Shane Benson

   Mr. Benson graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School in Smithfield N.C. in 1994 and went on to recieve his B.S. in music education from Western Carolina University.  While attending W.C.U. he performed in numerous ensembles as well as serving as principle trumpet in the wind ensemble, lead in the jazz band, and trumpet section leader of the
Marching Cats! His experience with band  includes some of North Carolina's finest programs.  Mr. Benson currently teaches band at Clayton Middle School in Calyton N.C. where  he has distinguished himself as one of North Carolina's premier middle school directors.

              Chad Riley

   Mr. Riley is a 1999 graduate from Wake Forest-Rolesville H.S. in Wake Forest N.C.  While there he performed with numerous ensembles including jazz, symphonic, marching, and winter programs.  In addition Mr. Riley was a 1996 snare line member of Tarheel Sun Drum and Bugle Corps.  He currently attends East Carolina University majoring in business.  Mr. Riley is presently a percussion instructor at South Johnston H.S. in Four Oaks N.C.  He also plays drums in Raleigh's premier "RapCorps" Rock/Fusion band "Organix."
             Kelly Hall

     Ms. Hall is a graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill N.C.  While there she performed with the Marching Tarheels and served as guard captain for two of her four seasons.  She has also been a member of Carolina Visual Productions winter guard, a two year member of First Flight winter guard and a marching member of
Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps.  In addition to teaching some of North Carolina's premier guards  she is currently a color guard instructor at South Johnston H.S.  and can reached at kpklank@bellsouth.net
