Kevin Spacey ( American Beauty ) : What else can be said about Spacey's portrayal of disgruntled middle-age dreamer Lester Burnham? This performance is as close to perfection as can be. His anger , quips and mannerisms are wonderful to watch and it's easy to see why Spacey is rated as being the best actor in America right now.

Jim Carrey ( Man On The Moon ) : As the film's poster said " Jim Carrey IS Andy Kaufman ". Carrey embodies the character of Kaufman with powerful results.

Russell Crowe
( The Insider , Gladiator ) : As both the nervous, tubby whistleblower Jeffrey Wygand and the noble General Maximum, Crowe is magnificent.

Hugh Jackman ( X-Men ): Jackman's portrayal of " Wolverine " in X-Men is without the best interpretation of a comic book character on the big screen since Christopher Reeves's Superman in 1977.

George Clooney ( O Brother , Where Art Thou ? , Three Kings ) : In these diverse roles George proved himself to be more than just a pretty face with some powerful acting and a comedic flair.

Tobey Maguire ( Wonderboys ) : In an otherwise un-inspired film, Maguire lit up the screen with his depiction of a troubled young man.

John Cusack ( Being John Malkovich ) : Cusack delivers yet another excellent performance as a hapless puppeteer who fins a portal into John Malkovich's wife. Hilarious performance.

Most overrated male performance : Jim Carrey ( The Grinch ) Jim's portrayal of the grinch was touted as genius, but in fact is one of the worst performances of his career, a re-hash of earlier characters, all patched together. Lets hope the Carrey we know and love returns to form in Frank Darabonts " The Bijou " .

Most overrated female performance : Annette Bening ( American Beauty ) The only bad aspect of Sam Mendes wonderful film debut was Annette Bening's over the top, and oftenly annoying performance as the bitchy real-estate-dealer wife of Kevin Spacey. Where Spacey's performance is subtle, Bening acts like some sort of soap opera star, constantly screaming and crying. Disappointing.

Most overrated film : Being John Malkovich

Line of the year : " Will someone pass me the f****** asparagus ?!?! " ( Lester Burnham asks politely for some more nutritious vegetables in American Beauty )
