FAULTS

My car has covered about 147.000km (Feb. 2008) and it has seen some trouble:
1)
Switch broken (twice) on gearbox for actuating the reverse light and (if needed) the rear wiper, when reverse gear is put (fixed in garage: warranty).
2)
Seal broken on cooling water inlet, so the car lost lots of cooling water (fixed in garage: 220DM).
3)
Drive shaft seal broken, so the car lost oil from gearbox (fixed in garage 120DM), happened twice.
4)
Battery had to be replaced after 1 year only.
5)
Failure of anti lock brake (ABS) : Very common Rover problem! ABS pole wheels break and give wrong signal to ABS control sensor. Aftermarket spare part (eg. from SPIDAN) cost half the price of XParts (Genuine Rover) spare parts!
6)
The head leaks oil (camshaft cover) from the first day, which is spreaded onto the generator and intercooler. The mechanics never managed to get this tight.
7)
The drive shaft of the front right side slipped out of the joints. The car had to be put on a trailer.
Replacing the  drive shaft and the ball joint costed 1600DM!!
8)
Gasket on exhaust manifold broken.
9) The famous K-Series Head Gasket failure (HGF)
caught me after 10 years and 145.000km on the clock.
Seems that this due to bad engine design. Plenty of discussion on the web!
10) Gear box: gear change gets more and more unprecise, especially in the cold, it is impossible to put in 2nd gear!

11)
After 10 years the intercooler needed replacement, so do some hoses of the exhaust: That is normal!

One thing is for sure:
You need to move the car frequently. A lot of these repairs became necessary after long time being idle.
