It's the summer of 1963, and Louann Clatterbuck, the Senator's daughter, is set on making sure her engaged friend, Carson, has the weekend of her life! Conspiring with two other friends, formerly-chunky Caroline "Pudge" Carmichael and rebellious preacher's kid Melaina Buller, they tell their parents that they're off to a weekend at historic Fort Sumter, when really they're off to the Sun Fun Festival at Myrtle Beach.

Mayhem ensues when Melaina pisses off two 'boho' local chicks, and decides to enter the beauty pageant to catch the eye of visiting celebrity Jimmy Valentine. Carson, torn over whether or not to go through with her marriage, is distracted by the hunky local Buzz. Though she can't admit it, responsible Louann is jealous of Carson's relationship with Harley. And poor Pudge is just hoping that Buzz's friend Chip will finally ask her to dance the Shag with him! This is a great story of behaving like a well-bred Southern lady, while being tempted with all the other options life has to offer.

Will Carson marry Harley? Will Chip ever admit his feelings for Pudge? How will Melaina EVER get all that crap out of her hair? Pressing questions like these are what make this flick one of my favorite guilty pleasures.

A bunch of kids from my Junior High went to Lutheran Confirmation Camp with
Annabeth Gish, who plays Pudge. Hence, this flick was VERY popular in my hometown.
