Jumping beans
Sandra's Guide Pages Home
Jumping beans are a classic toy and well worth introducing to your girls... not only that, they're easy to make!  All you'll need is some paper, glue or sellotape and a normal marble for each "bean".

Cut out the two shapes on the top right.  The four thin rectangles should be cut out, the larger rectangle with the wavy lines should be kept as one piece.

The larger rectangle should be about 7 cm x 4 cm.

Colour in the pieces as you like, using felt tip pens or any other method.

Roll the larger rectangle into a cylinder, tucking the flap beyond the dotted line behind the rest of it and gluing together.  Glue two of the short strips in a loose cross over one end (see 3rd picture).

Put the marble in the tube then glue the other two strips on to the other end.

Leave to dry then test it out - it really will jump in your hand!
