Guano Apes at Tavastia Club Finland on 24th March, 2001
The club opened at 21:00. I arrived there
in good time21:00 sharp. At the club I heard that the support
bandstarts to play at 22:30 so I just wondered around and got
myself few whiskeys and a couple of beers. Finally they opened the
doors to the hall where the band would start playing. I got
myself a good position in the front line. A guy with a motorized
wheel chaircame next to me and asked if I could make some
spacefor him as he couldn't see anything if he wasn't justin
front of the stage. So I made some space with the'elbow tactics'
;-) The support band was Finnish Velcra (seehttp://216.33.236.250/cgi-bin/linkrd?_lang=EN&lah=4fa1034a6c8d0c759443ec77cdfbb65e&lat=988128790&hm___action=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2evelcra%2ecjb%2enet%2f) which I had never heard before. As they
started to play, the hall was already quite full altough some
folks were still having some beer at the bar... Velcra
played good with lots of energy and people seemed to like them. I
liked themalso altough it was quite difficult to sing
along...Well we were already quite 'warmed' as Velcra finished
their set. More people tried to get in the front before Guano
Apes started but I managed to keep my place. Few
photographers from Finnish magazines rushed their way in the
front line and I was forced to stepback for a while. As Guano's
started at about midnight, the crowd wenttotally wild. After
first song - Mine All Mine, Sandrasaid that we're like in the
movie 'Storm' doing as bigwaves as in the movie ;-) People were
stage-diving and crowd-surfing _a lot_. The security guys
haddifficulties keeping people off the stage. Henningtold people
to take it easy - they didn't want anyoneto hurt their selves.Crossing
The Deadline was the second song so it seemedlike they
wanted to really 'heat' us up at the verybeginning ;-)Third song
was 'Open your eyes' and I've never see anything
like that before: the crowd was singing the chorus so loud that
Sandra's voice was hardly heardover crowd's :-) People went
totally nuts. Henning had to warn people again
about being too wild...Somebody threw a sweater on Sandra
and she didn't like it at all. Henning and Stefan
played some football with the sweater until a security guy
removed the sweater from the stage. I was really having
difficulties in the front line -people were pushing so strongly
and I couldn't moveaway since the wheel chair guy was next to me
with powerful breaks on. So the wheel chair didn't move aninch. Guano's
threw some water bottles for us which were more than welcome. Of
course people threw the water out from the bottles on each
others.Guanos played lots of songs from the new
album - 11 songs, compared to the songs from 'Proud Like A God'
-only 6 songs. They also played few soongs that were notin neither
album - Cuts and Ain't Got Time. The last song was 'Big In
Japan'. After that Denni sbroke his bass-drum and Guano's
left the stage. Someguys fixed the drum and after short shouting
"Weeewaanntt mooore!!" Guano's
returned to the stage andplayed - 'Sweet Home Alabama' for a
while! Few songsmore and they again left the stage.. More
shouting and Dennis, Henning and Stefan returned
to the stage. Theyplayed some instrumental song (Trumpet Song?)
which was really cool! Then crowd started to shout "Sandra,Sandra,
Sandra, Sandra..." and she returned to the stage.
They played 'Innocent Greed' and after that Henning asked what
song we would then like to hear.Crowd: "Lords of the
Boards! Lords of the Boards! Lords of the Boards!"Henning:
"What? Open Your Eyes? I think we already played that
song.."Crowd: "Lords of the Boards! Lords of the
Boards!Lords of the Boards! Lords of the Boards!"And YES!
They started playing it! And that was sooooocoool. We were
singing louder than ever - until the forst chorus, Sandra
just held her microphone and smiled since we all sang the song so
loud! It was totally awesome. One girl near to me hurt her arm
assomeone lifted her up to the stage for stage-diving(which she
didn't want to do). No one took her as shejumped and down to the
floor she went :-(The gig was the best gig that I've been in.
Totally cool. Everything was perfect expect one thing: next to me
was a very cute dark-haired beautiful girl, we spoke few words
but I never asked her name. And justbefore the 'Lords of the
Boards' she just disappearedand I never saw her again :-(Here's
