Biography

Guano Apes formed in March 1994. Dennis,Henning(Their Musical Influences were of Primus, Police, but With the entry of Sandra the musical dynamic of the band changed radically) and Stefan were already together but they were searching the perfect leadsinger , they tried a couple of possibly singers for the band but anyone corresponded to the caracteristics they wanted to...well, until they meet Through a Friend of Dennis in a University Party, of Their City, Göttingen... Sandra of course! Sandra imidiately wondered the guys, Dennis even afirms that when he saw a girl in a rock band he was very surprised and not very convinced

At the beginning Guano Apes started playing in small places such as bars,clubs and so one,.. but in 1996 there is the biggest change in their lifes, they entered in a band competition with more 1015 bands and they won "The Local Heroes", a german contest for new bands of The Channel Viva2 which gave them the possibility to record and album,that later would become into "Proud like a God". Their first single was "Open your eyes", next "Rain" and then "Lords of the boards" which gave them the possibility to become known in other European countries appart Germany because it was the hymn of the "Snowboarding championship of 98" in Austria. With "Proud like a God" they went directly to the first places of the Top charts all around Europe.

Guano Apes In March of 99 Played their first gigs in The US: 2 gigs in Austin and Boston, and The Persons That see that gigs was surprised with so many quality and energy of a "Unknown" Band!In Portugal "Proud like a God" was released only in 1999 when Apes came here in 31th May to a showcase in "Paradise Garage" they were very surprised because they were not expecting that so much people knew them being their it was their first time here, but the truth is that today Portugal become (in Guano Apes own words) their "second home". In 1999 after this showcase they gave 2 more concerts - in T99 Festival (with 60,000 people watching !) and in "Paredes de Coura" Festival where at the end of the show they had to repeat some songs responding this way to the big audience appeals, this was even considered one of the best concerts in Portugal of that year.

In 2000 Guano Apes were back here and this time bringing a new album , Portugal was the country they chosed to show some new songs for the first time, they did it in 2 Sold Out Coliseums (Lisbon + Oporto) in 12/13 March. In May of the same year they finally released the expected new album - "Don't give me names" that quickly run to the number one of the Europeans tops in which Portugal is obviously included in! In the summer Apes were back to the biggest Festival that Portugal had in that year "Sudoeste", there they made half of Living in a lie videoclip in which they kissed our flag :)). Later, in October Apes were still back, again in the Coliseums where as the times before they "made history"!With "Don't give me names" album we can see some changes in their style as for exemple in "Too close to leave" or better "Mine all mine".From this album we got the singles "Big in Japan" (a cover from "Alphaville" german 80's band),

No Speech (which the video was made between Los Angels and Las Vegas during Guano Apes american tour),Living in a lie and finally Dödel up. Between "Poud like a God" and "Don't give me names" we have also another single - "Don't you turn your back on me"- part of the german movie "Meschugge" sountrack. In 2001 Guano Apes are still playing live all around Europe, recording the new album, released possibly in early 2002, they also had time to make a song with a very know german comedy actor - Micheal Mittermeier , called "Kumba yo!".
