G’day from Woodville – New Zealand

2002

Hi there from the South Pacific,

Not quite a tropical island but we love it anyway :-) We are the 23rd Woodville Guides ( 9 to 14 years) Hawke’s Bay Region of New Zealand.

We try to do lots of outdoor activities, weather permitting, and the girls love to camp out in the bush. As we have NO poisonous insects, snakes ( no snakes at all actually), spiders and no large carnivorous animals, our wilderness areas are among the safest in the world.

Woodville is a very small rural town (pop 1600) located in the Tararua District at the boundary of Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay Provinces. We are at the junction of state highways 2 & 3 and upwards of 5,000 vehicles a day pass through out little town. We have several claims to fame:- we have the largest wind farm in the southern hemisphere for generating electricity

Take a look at www.tararua.com and it will show you where we live in New Zealand.

This is the first time we've participated in the tdexchange. I think it's a great idea!! We hope that you’ve been successful in getting all your trades.

If there is anything you want to know about New Zealand in general, or our group in particular, perhaps your leader can email us with your questions. Have a lovely Thinking Day 2002. We shall be thinking of you when we have our celebration.

The New Zealand flag has the Union Jack (top left) to show our links with the United Kingdom, the back ground in blue to represent the sea (we have lots of sea!!) and the stars represent the "Southern Cross" constellation which points to the south pole (The Australian flag is almost the same except that it has a small fifth star)

The structure on the left of the photo is State Highway 3. The Manawatu River is one of only two rivers in the world that rises on one side of a mountain range and goes to sea on the other!! If you want to find out how that actually happened you can check it out on www.manawatunz.co.nz
