Strings in the Schools Program

1st Year Class

Overview

This program is designed to be a 2 year course to introduce 2nd - 6th grade students to the violin.  Students will learn the basics of holding the violin and bow, playing simple songs, and studying basic note reading and rhythms.  We will have performances during the year to celebrate our progress!

At the end of the 2nd year, students are encouraged to continue studies with private lessons and/or joining the SLO County Youth Symphony.

If there is no school Friday, we will have a make-up class the following Monday.

Instruments
Instruments are available for rental at the SLO Symphony Office (1160 Marsh St., SLO)
We will measure your child for the correct size instrument at the first class.
Cost
  • 1 annual $50 instrument rental fee to "SLO Symphony" due October.
  • 1 annual $50 administrative + materials fee to "SLO Symphony" due October.
  • 3 quarterly $100 lesson tuition to "Grace Seng" due October, January, and April.
Home Practice
Please encourage your child to show you what he/she has learned in class and practice at home!  I introduce skills and concepts during class time, but I expect the students to go home and put in their own time to develop and master the skills.  It's more fun to play the violin when you practice and sound good!
