Formed 22 years ago at La Peña, this acclaimed Latin American music sextet reunites to celebrate the release of a double compilation CD.  The new double CD will include all the songs from their three vinyl albums:  Un Solo Camino, Amaneceres, and Por América del Centro.   Proceeds from the concert will pay the CD production costs.

Lichi Fuentes, Ellen Moore, Rafael Manriquez, Hector Salgado, Quique Cruz and Fernando Torres, are reuniting to lend their voices to the growing clamor for peaceful alternatives to the current climate of war.

One of the first Latin American Nueva Canción music groups in the Bay Area, Grupo Raiz ( raiz means "roots" in Spanish) is an exciting hybrid of rhythms, instruments and lyrics.  An offshoot  of the Latin American New Song Movement, the group draws on the traditional music of the Andes and the liberating and lyrical experimentation of the Nueva Trova Cubana.  Asides from a full repertoire of traditional folk music, these six musicians create a style closely tied to today's social reality.

All six are multi-instrumentalists and play over 20 instruments including traditional Latin American and modern European instruments.  A Colombian tiple, Puerto Rican and Venezuelan cuatros
indigenous flutes are their additions to the Andean array of guitars, charangos, sikus, quenas and bombos.

Since the early 80's the group has performed hundreds of concerts around the San Francisco Bay Area (where they live) and has toured extensively throughout the United States and Canada.  They have also toured Central America and Europe.  The group had the honor of playing with Pete Seeger in Germany, Nicaragua and the US on numerous occasions.  In addition, members have performed with Sting, Jackson Browne, Alex di Grassi and many other well known local musicians.
