FIND OUT MORE ABOUT METAL DETECTING IN THE UK

The wonderful hobby of metal detecting has been responsible for the discovery of over 80% of archaeological metal work during the last 20 years. This has included many fabulous treasures, such as the Middleham Jewel, The Snetisham torcs, The Hoxne hoard and many more. Because of the unique way finding treasure is treated in the United Kingdom, these wonderful finds are on view in the British and other museums so the general public can enjoy them. Nor do the finders go away empty handed, since under the Treasure Act the finder recieves a reward equal to the market value of the find. Those finds not required by museums are returned to their owner. Since most detectorists have a 50/50 share agreement with the landowner, that means joint ownership of the find, which is theirs to keep or sell as they see fit at the time.
