Special Meeting

There will be a special meeting at the October Regular meeting to discuss and address, if necessary, the alleged hunting infraction committed by club member.





Vacant Director At Large Position

During a special meeting at the September regular meeting, Randy Burke, Bill Lacey, Jeff Pollard, George Clark, and Don Buchanan were nominated to serve out the remaining year of the vacant Director At Large position. An election to fill this vacancy will be held at the Regular Meeting on 21 October 2009.

New Members

At the September regular meeting thirtysix (36) prospective members were unanimously voted in as new members. Jim Kelley also read the names of fortytwo (42) prospective members that will be considered for membership and voted on at the Regular Meeting on 21 October 2009. The names of the 42 prospective members are posted at the club. Congratulations to these new members!

EB Security Use of Multipurpose Range

EB will be using the multipurpose range on Monday through Friday 26 to 30 October 2009. A club member is needed to open the gate and be available during the shooting. Work hours are given for this. Contact Mike Riley at (401) 596-1660 to get a day.

New Archery Committee Chairman

Tom Felicetti will be taking over as Archery Committee Chairman. Special thanks go out to Mark Dyer for all of his hard work and dedication during his tenure as Committee Chairman and our appreciation goes out to Tom for stepping up to help out. Thanks guys!

Fall Field Day

The Fall Field Day will be held on Sunday 22 November 2009. Field Day clean-up/setup will occur Saturday 21 November 2009. Plenty of help is needed to prepare for the event, sell raffle tickets and earn work hours. Please call Wayne Carbone at (860) 599-5504 to get more details.

Kitchen Committee

The kitchen committee is looking for some new members to train as cooks. They really need some extra help if they’re going to continue to provide the excellent breakfast on Sunday. All you new members, this is a great way to meet fellow club members and to get work hours. Please call George Crouse at (860) 536-0806 for more information.

Junior Pheasant Hunt Day

The Groton Sportsmen's Club is sponsoring the Junior Pheasant Hunt Day on Sunday 6 December 2009. Your junior hunter(s) can hunt with volunteer Sportsmen over a trained bird dog with handler.

Where: At Groton Sportsmen's Club - (Tom Wheeler Road, North Stonington / Voluntown Property) Eligibility: Open to Graduates of the Conservation Education/ Firearms Safety Program or equivalent. Must be 12 through 15 years of age and possess a valid junior hunting license.

CT Pheasant Tags NOT Needed Sign-up Deadline is December 1, 2009 Applicants must reply by contacting either: Steve Whaley at (860)536-1484 or Mark Dyer at (860)334- 1664. If you prefer to apply via email, send a message to both: sandlwhaley@comcast.net and Mark_Dyr@yahoo.com.

You must provide the following information: Name, Address, City, State, Zip Code, Telephone number, AND your E-mail address (if you have one,) Hunting License Number, Date of Birth, and your Preferred Hunting Session and Alternates (8 a.m. - 10 a.m.; 10 a.m. - 12 noon; 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.; 2.p.m. - 4 p.m.)

THE FIRST TWENTY FIVE APPLICANTS WILL BE ACCEPTED!

300 Yard Range

While a permanent fix to the bridge is being pursued, the 300 yard range is now open for metal target use only. The bridge is still closed and the setting up of targets using either the bridge or accessing from the skeet fields is prohibited at this time. The Outdoor Range Committee Chairman George Chapman knows that the members want the bridge repaired ASAP. Be assured that we are diligently pursuing a permanent fix that they want to be certain is safe and won’t wash away in the next major storm.

Newsletter Editor Vacancy Filled

Mr. Joe Tasca (riwhaler@hotmail.com) will be assuming the responsibility for the Newsletter following the October 2009 Regular Meeting. Please provide Joe with the same level of support and courtesy that you have provided over the past two years.

Indoor Range

Scheduled work party for Tuesday evening, 13 October starting approximately 6 P.M. Help is needed installing the barriers at each of the shooting positions. More help is needed on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Members can acquire their work time by participating on Tuesday evenings at 6 P.M. Contact Mike Kopycienski at 536-2541 for details.
