    Pegasus West is a day treatment program for members of our community who struggle with the symptoms of mental illness.  Our program provides daily structured activities of groups and medical education.  The program focuses on the importance of an atmosphere of acceptance and friendship.  We strive to assist our clients in their return to the community once again as a productive member.
     Clinical studies have consistently reported the importance of social support in the successful treatment of mental illness.  We at Pegasus have long recognized the value of family involvement with our clients.  That is why we are offerring a newly formed group for family and friends.  This group is held in the evening hours in the community room at Pegasus West.  We held our first meeting on February 20, 2001.  Although we had a small turnout, we are confident that once we spread the word, many of you will want to join.
     At the first meeting, we discussed the purpose of the group, and what it can offer.  Here are some of the points we covered.  This group should provide the following;
     *
Peer support among family members and supportive friends
     *
Educational materials for increased understanding of the symptoms and treatment of             mental illness
     *
Organized support for the PW program activities
     *
Fund raising for client activities
     *
Positive interaction between support members and PW staff
     *  Outside group activities, such as family/client picnics
     *  Overall increased involvement of support members with client and the
         PW program
The Next Meeting will be held on:
Tuesday, March 20
At 7:00 PM
