So I haven’t posted in a long time. I assure you I’m still here. Anyway Megan’s been back so sorry but I’ve had more important things. We went up to the water park in waterloo last Sunday that was a blast. Altman’s brother and Feldman came to, I could have done without them but whatever. Got pictures up from that. Been hanging out with her, Nick, Katy, Lisa, Altman, Johnson, Peter a lot. Went over to Stephanie’s last night to play volleyball. Good stuff. I’m getting bored of being here. I want to go back to school where I was busy. But of course I don’t want to leave the people. Always the dilemma. Oh well whatever. Hopefully we’ll get some poker going on tonight and I won’t lose to Wery.

Ok first of all, the sleeping thing lasted like two days. After 2 nights of no sleep I crashed through one of my naps for 8 hours. So screw that. It’s too hard to schedule things around it anyway.
The wedding was last night. It was a very nice ceremony. Everything went off pretty much without a hitch. We went down to North Liberty for the reception. Good stuff. We’re heading out in a little bit to Alex’s mom’s place to have kinda a family get together thing while everyone is in town. I haven’t seen my uncle Bob well…. Honestly I’m not sure I can ever remember seeing him. Aunt Liz is here to, don’t get to see her to often. Of course the Minnesota people are all down to.
Hung out with Altman and Nick Friday night. All of Lucas’s friends were over at Jacob’s. I felt like such a loser hanging out with high schoolers. I pissed off one of Lucas’s girlfriends. I said something like “what are you a junior?” She said yeah so I said something like “Woah aren’t you a big girl now!!?” She apparently thought I was calling her fat instead of making fun of that she was in high school. (this seems to be reoccurring issue for me.) Any way it was funny. We went over to Michael’s there was this guy there named Kevin who had it in for Dawson. When he and Altman got together is was hilarious. They were both going on about how she’s destroyed them etc etc etc. funny as hell.
Anyway I’m off to eat leftover wedding cake and punch!
7 Days!!!!!!

I'm really tired tonight and I'm not sure why. It's like quater to 11 and I'm ready to sleep. So I got a new car. It's a 02 Saturn L series wagon. Not exactly the hottest thing on the market but it has uber low mileage and we got a pretty decent deal on it so I'm happy. Insurance isn't even to bad. It's got a lot of room in the back which I'm happy about. I'm think tailgateing, camping, road trips. Gonna be sweet.
Besides that nothing else major is happening. Saw Fantastic 4. Thought that was pretty good. Entertaining at least. Been hanging out with Altman, Katy, Nick and Peter a lot. Good times. The wedding is this weekend. I'm supposed to go pick up a tux at some point. Johnson heads to Ireland soon I guess. That will be really sweet for him. I guess his sister is getting married or something. I didn't quite get all the details on that. Well I'm probaly gonna pump out a paper quick for class tomorrow, do a little reading and hit the hay. I feel like an old man. My dad is staying up later than I am. :-(

So I guess I'm updating everyday now since I have nothing better to do. I think I'm gonna try this system I'm been reading about. It's call Uberman Sleeping Schedule. The deal is this. Instead of sleeping 6-9 hours all at once at night you take several naps during the day, like 6, 20 minutes naps for a total of 2 hours of sleep. How is works is that when you sleep for long periods of time your body goes through different stages of sleep. It takes several hours to reach REM sleep. this is the stage of sleep that seems to matter. When you're on the Uberman schedule you keep your body on the edge of sleep deprivation so that as soon as you lay down for the 20 nap you drop straight into REM sleep. That way you end up with 2 hours of pure REM sleep throughout the day where you only get around an hour and half when you sleep normaly slipping through the various stages. So anyway I think I'm gonna give it a try. It would be cool to only sleep 2 hours a day and still be functional.
Other than that not tons going on. Alex's Bachelore party is next week. I'm probaly supossed to go get a tux sometime.
My prof mentioned something interesting today in class. He has a tendancy to go off on liberal tangents but this one today wasn't about politics. He told us about a book some guy had written called "Beer and Circus" He talks about how big universitys keep the undergraduate students pacified by letting them get drunk and giving them football similar to how rome keep the mob happy with bread and gladiators. He said there is an unwritten non aggression contract. Students don't complain about the low quality of education (500 people classes, TAs who don't speak english etc...) and the profs agree to keep the grades easy and let people stay in a hungover haze for 4 years and walk out with a degree. It was an interesting idea I thought.
Anyway that's all I got for now. Later

Wednesday. Not much going on so far. Went to class this morning. still only 8 people showed up. That kinda sucks becuase then each individual has to talk more or there are long empty pauses while the prof waits to see how long it takes for someone to speak. Mowed the lawn this afternoon. Damn mower was giving me shit. I had to barrow the neighbors. Now I'm contemplatnig food. We have no damn bread in the house so I can't even make a freaking sandwhich! >-0 God my life is so tough. I'm waiting for my dad to come home and hopefully we can go take a look at cars. Right now the rents don't think I need one. They think I can get by barrowing my mom's while I'm home and they don't think I'll use one enough at school. So I've managed to talk them into thinking about leasing one. We will see what happens with that. I put pictures up on webshots For some reason it won't let me load more than one at a time, that makes it a real bitch. I also have some video's I took here and here.

– I’m back. Finally, thank God. It’s been a long month and a little more.
Cortramid was a mixed bag. I got to do some cool stuff, see some cool stuff, meet some cool people but also sat a lot, listened to some pointless lectures, tour some worthless places and had to be around people who bugged the shit out of me. Some of my favorite things were the underway period on the Toledo, MCMAP (Marine Corp Martial Arts Program), The obstacle course, and the T-34 flight. I’m gonna try to keep this somewhat readable so I’ll be brief. I’d be happy to share some of the better stories if you want to ask.
After I got back from Norfolk I left 10 hours later for Oahu to see Megan. Megan is fantastic. Honolulu is horrible. I will extrapolate. Honolulu is like Chicago but hot so stuff smells. Seriously the traffic is rediculous, people leave garbage on the streets, crime is bad and its over run by commercial tourism. If you go to Hawaii go to Maui. Megan’s been pretty busy with work. She says she really likes the kids she’s working with. They move her every couple of weeks to work on a different program. She got certified to SCUBA dive. She’s been around the island some and seen a lot of the sites. I was really glad to see her. I’ve missed her a lot. Megan says to say hi to everyone but her phone was stolen so she can’t call. Besides seeing Megan we also hung out with my aunt who lives in Honolulu and did touristy stuff. Saw the Arizona memorial which was both moving and educational. Sat on the beach a bit. Did some site seeing and went diving once. The diving was ok. First dive had to much surge but the second one was great. There were some very cool lava formations that you don’t see in the Caribbean where I’ve been diving before.
Now that I’m back I almost need a few days just to adjust to being home again. I started my summer school course today. I picked up intro to philo so I don’t have to take it back at ND and to help free up my schedule so I can go to London junior year. The bitch is that it’s down in Iowa City so I have to drive like 40 min each day to get there. Oh well. Other than that I may or may not try to pick up a job. The money would be nice but I need some time to relax. I’m hoping to paint, read and cook a lot for the next couple weeks before I head back to school. I’ve also been looking into this. I thought it might be interesting to give it a try.
I’m glad to be home and looking forward to seeing everyone again. I’ll working on getting pictures up (KATY) ;-)

So this is my last day in CR before I head to Norfolk for CORTRAMID. People came over here Monday night for Megan’s going away party. That was cool. I got to see a lot of people I hadn’t seen yet since I’ve been back. I think Megan was happy she got to see everyone before she took off.
Went over to Altman’s last night. We watched all of the original star wars. Nick and Johnson are wrong. Leia is hotter than Padame.
Now I’m just working on getting ready for cruise. I can’t find an address for there so if anyone wants to write your best chance is probably -

Midn 3/c Justice

Tired. It’s been a busy couple of days and it will continue to be until I leave on Thursday. Went to Minnesota on Friday. Made great time getting up there. Played poker at Canterbury Park. I was doing pretty well and up 33 bucks after an hour and a half. We then went and got dinner. We came back and tried our hand at betting on horses. We didn’t do so well. Nick decided we needed to pool our money and do a ‘box.’ Frankly I didn’t have a clue what was going on. Long story short we weren’t very good at betting on horses. I put my name back in for another poker table but the wait was incredible. So I played black jack for a while and lost 25 bucks pretty quickly. I finally got a table. Didn’t do so well the second time around. The table was a lot more aggressive. Guys were firing two/three raises in pre flop with crap hands. I had a couple of bad beats. Out kicked a few times. Made my flush on the river one hand only to find out that the same card made a full house for another guy. Ended up down at about 70 by the time we left. I was probably on the tilt some by the end of the night. But oh well.
After we left Canterbury everyone else wanted to go check mystic lake out. I lost 5 bucks on slots and then quit. I hate slots. Abbie was cleaning up in black jack again. Lucky. We took off later and went to the hotel. It was a bitch to get our room. We probably got there at 12:30 there was no one at the night window. The ring for service bell was broken. Nick finally called the place to wake up the moron in the back room to get him to come up front and check us in. Drove back the next morning. Didn’t make as good time. The weather was horrible. Probably down to 20 ft vis at the worst.
Saturday night Megan and I went to see Man of La Mancha at TCR. Doug and Scott D both had roles as muletters. It was a decent show. I was impressed, apparently Doug can sing. Today I went to church, ate lunch and took some soup to Grandma, checked out cars with my dad, ran with Nick, took care of odds and ends around here and began packing for Norfolk. I forgot how much of a bitch it is to iron. Anyway gambling pictures are up and I found some pictures from last summer on my mom’s computer I might have to get around putting up. Later

Also check out this video I found from last summer.

So I’ve rented a bunch of old movies and have been watching them. I’d never seen like, Dr. Strangelove or To Kill a Mockingbird. That’s been a good waste of time these past few days. 12 Angry Men was really good. I remember reading the play at some point in time and from what I remember it was pretty faithful. To Kill a Mockingbird was Ok. It was much shorter than the book so obviously had to leave a bit out, that hurt it some. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a movie that’s surpassed a book though. Dr. Strangelove was really good to. I want to see more Kubrick films now. Tomorrow it’s Citizen Kane.
Jay, Paul and I are also going to hit the latest Star Wars tomorrow. That’ll be good. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan. Neither or the ‘first’ two really did a lot for me. I liked the original trilogy though. I’d like to see those again some time this summer.
I also read the DaVinci code the other night. I’d been meaning to do that for a long time. It was ok. I wasn’t real crazy about the ending.

Things I still have to see/read :
A Clockwork Orange (the movie, the book was great)
It’s a Wonderful Life
Mr. Smith goes to Washington
Slaughterhouse 5
Doesn’t another Harry Potter book come out this summer?

Any other suggestions for Dan’s summer reading/viewing list?
Minnesota in two days!!!

It’s good to be home. I’ve done a fair bit of lying around. Still haven’t completely unpacked all my stuff. Everyone from Iowa and Loras are out finally. However no one has been really thrilled about doing anything. Oh well. I hung out with Nick, Jacob and Alex the other night. We played poker for a little while and then went and got food and ‘National Treasure’. The movie is absolutely ridiculous. Fun to watch, but rididculous. Went down to IC for Johnson’s birthday. That was not quit as cool. Went to Nick and Kate’s sister’s graduation parties. Say some of the seniors I hadn’t in a while. I’ll probably go to graduatiuon next Sunday. My cousin’s birthday was a few days ago. We went to one of those Japanese places where they cook the food in front of you and flip they’re knifes around etc etc. That was cool. My little cousin Treyton who’s maybe 8 says he wants to have his birthday there :-) Yeah so I’m gonna give Nick a buzz and then go running.

So we went to the concert last night. It was freaking incredible. I’m a big Green Day fan so it was even better for me. I picked up Megan at maybe 11:30 and we headed up to West Union to pick up Stephanie and Matt. We ate some lunch there and took off. I drove; it was a pretty easy drive, nice scenery the whole way up it was like a Grant Wood painting. We made it to Matt’s mom’s place around eh 5:30ish. Got some subs and headed to the concert. Got there early enough that we got decent parking and headed in.
The opening band was called ‘My Chemical Romance’. Never heard of them. They were ok but not great. They had an intermission while they changed the stage that kinda sucked. A guy in a bunny suit came out and drank in stage. That was freaking hilarious. Green Day came out and they rocked. They opened with American Idiot. They played a couple of their new songs. The place went nuts when the brought out Longview. They mixed up the rest of the show with new and classics.
At one point Billie Joe asks if there is anyone who plays drums in the audience. So of course the whole place freaks out. He gets a drummer and a bass guy up there and they play with the band and then he asks for a guitar player. He picks this kid's in the back part of place and the kid crowd surfs the whole way up to the stage. The kids play a few minutes and actually the drummer was pretty good, he did a solo at the end. Billie Joe asks the guitar player a few questions and then tells the kid to keep the guitar. It was awesome. That kid is never going to forget that.
The rest of the show was good. Good music. Good pyro stuff. They closed and came back for an encore. They played Boulevard of Broken Dreams and closed with Good Riddance. Fricken awesome show.
Drove back to Matt’s mom’s. Traffic wasn’t horrible, a little trouble getting out of the parking lot but nothing bad. Took off pretty early this morning. Drove back not much else. And now King of the Hill is on and I’m gonna go turn on the grill and get some supper going.

Well it’s done. My first year of college is over. The thing in Erin’s blog speaks pretty true. Finals sucked. I didn’t do as well as I hoped this semester. Oh well life goes on. Frankly I’m just happy to have a break. Packing up and leaving was weird. I’m gonna be doing to much of that for the next 3 years I think. I’ve been working on unpacking and moving back in home most of today. I actually don’t know how I fit all this crap into my dorm.
Tomorrow Megan and I are driving up to Wisconsin to go to the Green Day concert with Stephanie and Matt. That is going to be freaking sweet.

My last chem test
So finals are upon us. I did pretty shitty on physics. Everyone else did really shitty. So I'm happy. Poly Sci probaly went ok. I can't wait to be done with test. I can't wait to get home. I really miss Megan. It's gonna be tough leaving here though. Um I'm sure lots has happened since I last updated that I haven't included. Tough.

Greetings once again my faithful Blog readers. I have again returned to entertain and enlighten your dreary, boring, pathetic little lives. Live under the dome continues to go on much as it has these past 8 or so months. Soon I’ll have to start packing up and getting ready for finals. I have a pretty decent final schedule thankfully. Only 4 cumulative finals. One a day with Wednesday off. I'll still have to do a lot of studying and I need to do decent on most of them (especially calc, which I've already heard is a bitch).
Our last HA show is Tuesday in the library auditorium. You should come. We have some great skits that are absolutely sending us to hell. Two words ‘ ‘Jesus Roast’. Intrested? Come and see our last show as we bid goodbye to another hilarious year.
I went to the blue and gold game yesterday. That was cool. No wait’ it was COLD. No seriously it snowed here yesterday. Its april, and it snowed. Not only did it snow, but it accumulated! Snow fucking accumulated here on april 22. I take this as further proof that we have displeased God and that he is trying to drive us from this place. The game itself was pretty sweet. I was a little taken back by some of the things I saw though. Even if these guys are our second and third strings I would think they should be able to make a pass. Eh who knows maybe the teams were more stacked that I realized.
Anyway that’s about it for today. So I’ll leave you with a new feature I like to call. Dan’s random picture of the day.
