This beautiful film is moving and perfect for fans of films set in America couple of decades ago. Quite and real without the special effects: just the physical and emotional cinematography. Tobey Maguire is perfect for his role as an intelligent, honest and sincere boy who knows exactly what he wants and where to get it. Trust me on this one and catch it before it runs out in theatres.


WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

This Spanish delight is so interesting and unique any film fan shouldn't miss it for the world. Segments of 15 minutes with different casts and a different stories are stringed together with a similar theme (romantic relationships) into a art piece. Jealousy, lust, romance, adultery... the enticing and humorous tales are hilarious and provocative, fantastic for a date. Imagine a row of Seinfelden anecdotes about relationships pieced into a movie.


TOKYO RAIDERS

Beautiful actors with nice Tokyo Architecture and amazing fighting choreography with some animated comic-strip like effects... a dream come true for all fans of sleek chic fighting oriental style. Sadly, watching 2 guys and a babe running up and down down in Tokyo, dodging silly incompetent mafia members isn't exactly what I would consider an invigorating cinematic experience. Did I mention that the acting by Kelly is so... that one feels sympathetic in the scene when she is highly emotional because she didn't manage to wet her eyes after a few minutes of close-ups. I've heard that it is better than Aaron Kwok's 2000 AD but then again, I'm sure most agree that Highlander was better than Highlander 2.


SLEEPY HOLLOW

Tim Burton. This should say it all. Fantasy, elaborate wardrobes and cinematography at their finest. Morbid and dark plot and theme... with 2 of his favourite actors: Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci. Black humour and everything black, this period piece is enjoyable but still lacking in the number of action scenes. The setting and visuals are close to perfect, including the leads comic timings: even Johnny's. Could have been more suspenseful but I guess the excessive scares and thrills would have tipped it over into b-rate-dom.


ANGELA'S ASHES

Typically Irish with the perpetual plot development of children dying, this sad story based on the popular book is disheartening and melancholic almost throughout. Forget the American triumphant and hero-emergence styles. Angela is brutally honest and frank - c'est la vie. This movie drafting the life of an Irish boy is slightly motivational and inspiring towards the end, if you hadn't been crushed by the dreary mood by then. A film definitely deserving of a ticket price if you're looking for some serious materials to swallow after a glossy blockbuster. Try it.
