SCREAM 2

This sequel-spoof is so much fun! More gore, more punchlines, more screaming but a little more unbelievable. Fortunately, the weaker ending is overshadowed by the sustenance of suspenseful sequences and seat-jumping moments throughout the movie. The youthful cast looks as glamorous as ever after a year (icing on the cake) and the jokes are twice as funny. If you enjoyed the 1st, don’t miss the second.

THE BORROWERS

A short movie about miniature human breeds living behind the walls and under the floors, ‘borrowing’ necessities from the house in order to sustain their thin heritage. This weak film adaptation is not half as captivating as the original despite the leapt in its special-effects department. Unlike Honey I Shrunk The Kids, the storyline is stiff and the tiny humans are hardly adorable. John Goodman along with his slapstick antics do little to save the show.

SPHERE

Much like casting Sharon stone as the biochemist, the film is full of hot-air and pays little attention towards creating credibility. The compensation, though lacking, lies in its fine lighting, interesting sets and ample special effects which creates a great ambience throughout the entire movie. The clever twist in the end redeems the film but Sphere remains a far cry from a quintessential hollywood sci-fi pic.

GOOD WILL HUNTING

This indie-like film is funny, intellectual, heart-wrenching, soul-searching all rolled into one. A tale of a young disturbed genius who learns the meaning of life with the help of a psychiatrist. A tinge of sex, some violence, lots of talk. A great choice for those who enjoy human drama. Nominated for 9 Oscars, this is a great film to savour.



AS GOOD AS IT GETS

This hot Oscar contender for best pic, actor, actress, supporting actor amongst others struck a chord after I caught it- Jerry Maguire. Only minutes ago, I found out why - James L. Brooks' the producer of both films. Both big romantic hits showcasing the talents of established actors (Jack and Tom), breakthrough performances of their female leads (Helen and Renee) and supporting males (Cuba and Greg). Both about an unlikely couple who almost got together, separated, and get together for good.

If you enjoyed Jerry Maguire, you'll love As Good As It Gets. But if like me, you find the union in Jerry a mistake, you'll find the couple in this movie mismatched. However, amongst other credits, this film sparks off loads of witty lines and its cast ensemble carries an extraordinary blend of chemistry. A movie not to be missed based on these credits alone.
