HKS Mark II Supra Turbo Kit:

At the Toronto Club September mini-meet last season, we had a few new faces, and some we just hadn't seen in a while. It is always a good time to catch up with some of the less frequent meeters' and great to see some of the cars brought by the new faces. This meet however brought a whole new thing for me. For the first time, I have now seen the original MkII Supra HKS Turbo kit. I presume this kit has been unavailable from HKS for a number of years (perhaps 5-10 anyway), and although it was rumored that a few were still out there, I never thought I would get to see it. Of course, being the way I am, I forgot the owner's name already, but the car I won't soon. The system is a short pipe, non-intercooled turbo bolt on replacement for the 5M/6M. The owner said he has it set to 8psi boost from the little turbo. Picture 3 gives you an idea how small that little guy is. For reference, the housing had Mitsubishi markings, perhaps a 1G DSM turbo. This is one slick setup, with the owner installing a fuel computer to help run safely. I assume that a turbo this size was only designed to be a 4-5psi system without the benefit of an intercooler, so 8 psi may be generating a huge amount of unwanted heat. I can already see some potential modder taking that big HKS Turbo pipe off and fitting a top mount intercooler and a hood scoop in the tradition of Subaru's turbo boxer engines available on the WRX models...
