FAQ's

If you can't see an RC model submarine while it's running, what is the point

of building it ?

We'll, it's less risky than flying model aircraft and it's a lot easier

to learn.

How much does typical RC model submarine cost ?

This answer can range dramatically, depending on the size and

complexity of the boat. Typically, a small, simple, bare-bones boat can be

built for about (US) $500. In this case, the builder would be responsible

for fabricating virtually all the parts and components.

Where can you buy RC model submarines ?

RC model submarines are generally not available in hobby stores. RC

Submarines vendors advertise in some model ship magazines, and of course The

Subcommittee Report !

How does a typical RC model submarine dive ?

There are several methods: compressed air, pumps, or dive planes.

Can RC model submarines fire missiles or torpedos?

Depending on the sheer size of the boat, YES!

How can losing an RC model submarine be prevented?

Andre!, Why don't you answer this one - you're more experienced here!

Greg! ...Short of Going into Too Much Detail!......Keep A LogBook of Every Sortie

you make, every Repair, Perform the Recommended Service interval for Gas System Overhaul,

Pump Overhaul( If You Got 'Em), Seal Integrity, Stuffing Box Lube changeout, Battery

replacement, Trim weight Change and Operational Characteristics at the end of the

Run! A Lot to think about ..huh! Well, If you Start your Log Book...Now!

And, You can have it for One or Multiple Boats! You will Thank Yourself for it Later!

It will keep a Record of What, Where and When an event occured, What You did about It!,

and How to ( Hopefully) Keep The same thing from happening to you again!................

.........Especially, When you have an Audience! (Witnessess, to Our Success or Failure!).

Well, Again I say!... Good Luck and Keep Your LogBook Current!

How deep can a typical RC model submarine dive ?

Most typical RC model submarines are designed to operate in less than

30 feet of water. Deeper depths begin to require stronger seals and other

pressure-rated equipment. Water visibility conditions obviously restrict

dive limits before water pressure starts to become a factor.

What is the range of the transmitter, what does the typical RC model

submarine use for an antenna ?

At the US Capital Reflecting Pool, we have achieved ranges of over 400

feet at shallow depths (2 feet or less). Ship board antennas need to be

kept in water tight spaces and shielded from "radio noise."

How fast can a typical RC model submarine go ?

RC model submarines are not designed to go fast. They are meant to

sail at near scale speed.

What is a typical RC model submarine made of ?

Usually, polyester or epoxy fiberglass.

What is the easiest type of submarine to build ?

Due to the reduced hull details, Nuclear submarines are somewhat easier

to build than WWII and earlier boats.

If You Have a Question About Model Submarining Call Us, If We Can't Answer It, We'll Find Someone Who Can.
