Days of Our Lives - Fan Fiction

Christie Clark & Roark Critchlow

The fiction you are about to read was mostly written back when I was still in college. The subject matter may seem odd to you, but bear with me.

Soap operas are considered the mainstay of new mothers, professional housewives and old ladies. It is the most traditional, strait-laced demographic in America. Marriage, heterosexuality and Christianity are the sacred cows of these people; there is widespread condemnation of those who are gay, sexually liberated or “unsaved”. Who better to introduce to the possibility of loving thy neighbor than yours truly, Evil Incarnate the Good Kind?

Geocities has closed down my BHI website and I am in the process of recovering these stories.

I will post them once they're found.

  • Caroline Horton's Diary Entries - Vignette - PG
Take a peek into Carrie's diary during her first pregnancy.

Answer to a fan fiction challenge by LaTwigg involving: poutine, a butterfly, an outrageous shade of nail polish, a compass, and children’s books. Sweet, more than a little sappy and very, very satisfying.

  • Matchmaker - Epic - PG-13/R (Unfinished)
All that we know about Carrie's mother, Anna Fredericks, is she is beautiful, scheming and high-maintenance. Meet Anna's little sister, Augusta, ISA Agent and the only woman capable of straightening out the insanity that is Salem. High adventure, humor, love and lust are all part of this epic story, my very first and most-beloved.

I wrote this fiction in honor of Roberta Bizeau, who played Flame Beaufort on Santa Barbara before the soap opera was canceled. I modeled Augusta “Gus” Fredericks after her, an agent for the ISA whose day job consists of being a decoy superspy á la Shane Donovan. Gus has two children and a third on the way; one was illegitimate – she gave her up when she was sixteen, the other – 10 years old and a lesbian – lives with her father. Gus is bossy, brassy and sassy and she takes delight in driving men wild. She spends most of the story kicking ass and getting her two favorite people in the world to realize how perfect they are for each other while fighting her attraction to Craig Wesley. Gus is a character I saw as a reflection of myself and some of the idiocy I was going through during 1998.

  • Shrink-Wrapped - Short Story - PG-13
Imagined transcript of Carrie's visit to her psychologist early in 1999. Lord knows she'd needed one by then with her family the way it was.

Another short that I was very satisfied with when I finished it. Here it is in its original form, warts and all. The idea came from doing transcriptions of interviews and my own frustrations. Not the easiest story to write, but the format was very successful.

  • Stay With Me - Short Story - PG (Added 09/05/02)
Mike and Carrie, both so strong and so fragile, find each other for a little comfort on a hot summer night.

Meta-narrative inspired by a line in the Stevie Nicks song “Leather and Lace”, and the beginning of my more “mature” style. I wanted some sexual tension between Mike and Carrie and I also wanted some background.

  • Worth Fighting For - Short Story - PG
Mike's waking dream in which he is visited by all of the women who have loved him and left him. Dreamy and sad, bring your tissues.

Got the idea for this one when I realized how pathetic Mike’s love life was. I wondered about each of the women he had loved, what they would say to him if they had a chance to see him again. This was a pleasure to write and there was much more flow to it than Matchmaker, which had no specific outline. I revamped the ending to give it more bite.
