Welcome to Mandy's Cabin

Hello and welcome to my humble abode! Sit and make yourself comfortable.

I am a 1999 graduate from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY...ESF for short...yes it is a long name. My degree is in environmental biology, and I am currently working as an ecology research assistant at the Institute of Ecosystem Studies in eastern New York.

The highlight of this past year was a mission trip to Belarus (a member of the former Soviet Union) in January and February 2004 with Operation Carelift. We visited orphanages, hospitals, schools, etc, delivering bulk supplies to those institutions as well as brining gifts to children who have very little. We told them about ourselves, America, and most importantly, about the God who loves them. For more information and tons of pictures of these sweet children, go to my church's website (www.lyallmemorial.org) and click on the tab labeled Belarus.

I am originally from Beaver Falls, PA, a small town about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh. If you have ever been to Pittsburgh or talked to a Pittsburgher, you may have found yourself wondering exactly what language they were speaking. That language is in fact Pittsburghese. You can find definitions and translations at the Pittsburghese dictionary.

Green Fire Text

My handle, Green Fire, comes from an essay by Aldo Leopold in his book "A Sand County Almanac":

We reached the old wolf in time to watch a fierce green fire
dying in her eyes. I realized then, and have known ever since,
that there was something new to me in those eyes - something
known only to her and to the mountain....In wilderness is the
salvation of the world. Perhaps this is the hidden meaning
in the howl of the wolf, long known among the mountains, but
seldom perceived among men."

Come join me on a virtual tour of the Holy Land of Israel. We'll visit many sites using pictures from my own trip, and take time to learn about the secular and Biblical history of each site. Additionally, we'll see what we can learn about our God from these places.

My life is an alter
To the Lord God Almighty
Who formed the stars in the sky,
The earth and the sea.

Indeed, all of Creation
Is a work of His hand.
In wisdom and power,
All of history He planned.

And yet, He who
My life builds and plans
Is the very One
For whom this alter stands.

His unconditional love
Has set me free
To live so that
His glory others may see.

My life and this site are dedicated to the honor and glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Memory of September 11

Where were you on September 11? Not many of us will forget.
Ingrained in our minds are images seen on the TV set.
Images of smoke and rubble, planes and buildings, explosions and flame,
Of heroes both great and small, expressions of grief horror and pain.

Events so tragic and senseless make us want to ask why.
How could this happen? Why must innocent people die?
We may never know in this life, but there is One who does know;
One who is sovereign over all and to Him we need to go.

To ask for mercy for those who died, comfort for those who mourn
The loss of ones they love and whose lives have been torn.
To ask for wisdom and courage for our leaders and President,
Safety for our great country, another attack to prevent,
For protection for those who serve our military, fire, and police
And hope for all man-kind through God's eternal peace.

So join with me in remembering all these in thought and prayer
Then go offer a smile to a stranger and call a loved one to say you care.
-AME

This flag flies in memory of those killed in the terrorist attack, and in honor of all those who serve our country.

The Dove of Peace flies from site to site, through many countries. Please help the Dove of Peace make a line around the globe by taking it to your site, giving it to someone else for their site, or simply saying a prayer for peace to reign on the earth.
