GREAT DANE
REHOMING AND RESCUE
The Great Dane Rehoming and Rescue Service was founded to give ALL Great Danes, registered or not, the opportunity for happiness with a new family, should the need arise. We are based in Queensland and offer help throughout the state and Northern NSW, but will endeavour to put anyone within Australia in touch with people in other States who may be able to help them, wherever possible.
My involvement with Great Danes began in 1968 but I didn't get my first bitch, Anoushka,  until 1975.  I spent over 10 years with this beautiful girl and through her, my love and admiration for this  incredibly intelligent, loyal and loving breed grew to what it is today.
After losing her in 1985, I purchased a bitch to show, the foundation of my line; bred my first litter several years later and remained involved in breeding and showing for 15 years.
I have always been passionate about the care and well-being of all animals, but particularly Great Danes, and this led to my involvement with Rescue in 1988.  I took over as Rescue Officer for the Great Dane Society of Queensland. Inc., a position I still hold today.
I hope, through this web site, to share with you some of the wonderful stories of Great Danes and their new familes, told mostly by the people involved themselves, and to provide some general information on the Breed, links to interesting Breed sites and perhaps encourage you to look into adopting one of these beautiful dogs, if you're the sort of person who really wants to make their dog part of the family, because a Great Dane is not for you if you expect to leave it in the yard, with just the occasional pat and little interaction.  They need, indeed demand, to become part and parcel of your family and everyday life, and if you can give them this, good food and husbandry,  they will reward you 1000 times over, with such love, devotion and just plain fun, that you will never be able to contemplate life without one as your companion.
If you think a Dane is for you, please email me with your details and a contact email/phone number so I can discuss it with you, and answer any questions you may have about the Breed.
I hope to regularly change and update this site, and I would welcome any suggestions/feedback you have regarding it, or information you would like to see here.
June Hayles, Co-ordinator.
