Hi Everyone, On September 16, 2004 I had surgery to remove a lump for biopsy. On September 24, 2004 I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon and was told that I had breast cancer in my left breast. On September 29, 2004 I was admitted into the hospital to remove the left breast in a simple mastectomy. The surgeon told me that they had gotten all the cancer and there is little to no chance that it will come back in the right breast. There was no cancer in the lymph nodes so they were not removed. Three weeks later I got an infection in the surgical area of the left breast area and had to be readmitted to the hospital for three days. I am home now and almost a month later am still going through dressing changes for the infection. The Dr who admitted me into the hospital for the infection released me with an antibiotic which my surgeon should have done in the first place. She, the surgeon, gave me a refill on the antibiotic when I went in for a follow up with her. I have an appointment with an Oncologist on the 17th of November, 2004 for the medication that will help prevent me from getting it back again. There is no radiation or chemotherapy needed as the surgeon says she got it all. I pray that she is right. She said I would not get an infection which I did so we will have to wait and see what happens next. I just thought I should let you all who visit know what is going on with me. Please pray for me that the cancer is gone and that it will not come back, ever. Thanks to all of you. Mary Anne |
